12-Year-Old Child Prodigy With Autism Could be the Future Einstein

IQ of 170.....just a bit lower than mine!

Green as a Thistle, Nutty as a Fruitcake

I thought this was a joke but then I clicked on the link to the list and there it was. So, I naively thought that people would be laughing their heads off so I read the comments. Oh boy - there are some really scary people out there! I felt so disturbed after reading all the greeny comments that I just had to go and open a bottle of wine (made from those naughty fermented grapes that release carbon dioxide -eeek)! Then I had to take a long bath (I know, wasting water, but what can I do?) to further calm me down. By that time I'd run out of wine so I jumped into the car (yes, fuel guzzling car), roared to the Supermarket (had their lights on!), and got me some more wine. Then I felt hungry so I stopped off for pizza (the pizza place used an actual electric oven!) and came home, switched on the TV (electricity and lights!) and watched me some sport (full stadium with evil people and all stadium lights blazing). Great night all round - thanks eco-loonys!!! BTW Vanessa, everything on your list was freely available during the stone age - get moving!

Vanessa, saviour of polar bears

If only the religion known as ecomoonbattery had a heaven, the impressively devout Vanessa of Green as a Thistle would qualify for entry if she really lives up to even half of her list of 366 green changes. Among her most preposterous techniques for saving the planet:

361. Writing poetry in haiku form only
366. Sleeping more
In an earlier time, Vanessa would have lurched around in a hair shirt, haranguing passers-by about their sins. Yet there are hundreds of psychiatrically afflicted individuals in every major city who beat her whole list just by living as derelicts. If she keeps buying her organic hard liquor in bulk, drinking it from the bottle (even though she's sworn off bottled beverages), and treating her nervous breakdowns with green tea, she'll soon be ready to join them.

President Pencilneck Goes to War

I'm not sure who is advising Mr Hope 'n Change, but if anyone is, they need to go get themselves a new job super-duper quickly. The Lefty Liberals are all frantically outraged at their Dear Leader for crossing the Progressive no-war line and going to war using kinetic military action in Libya. Horror! They're actually comparing him to Bush, that's how outraged they are! Now, Mr O did say that there would be no American ground troops in Libya, but he didn't say anything about no NATO boots touching Libyan desert sand! Me thinks he speaks in double talk. In any case, my bet is that sooner rather than later we'll see Obambi handing out more free weapons and bombs to his fellow Jihadists in Libya. Mr O is Al-Qaeda's biggest fan so no guessing why he's backing a rebel leader with ties to that organisation. Of course, I may be wrong. About that Nobel Peace Prize.....

Our Nobel Peace Prize laureate Moonbat Messiah is even more hawkish than W, according to Mark Halperin of left-liberal Time:
"By almost every metric you can use in terms of being a muscular executive — acting alone without congressional authority, extending the Bush policies overseas, particularly in the War on Terror and Afghanistan and Iraq — he's been more hawkish than George Bush."
Progressives may remember George Bush as the fascist warmonger whose bloodlust was going to plunge the world into chaos, and worse yet, make people not like us.
Cheer up, libs. The Manchurian Moonbat makes up for it by not acting in America's interest. Gaddafi was pacified by Reagan and has been quiescent for years. The al Qaeda and Muslim Brotherhood types Obama is helping into power on our dime and at the inevitable cost of American lives are anything but.

South Africa: Former rugby star arrested after axe killings

There is lots of speculation as to who the ex-rugby player is that went on an axe-wielding killing spree in Durban, South Africa. Rugby is played mainly by the White population (with a few Affirmative Action quota players thrown in to balance the racial books) so the assumption is that the perpetrator is White (or at least, that's what the ANC were praying for). Wrong. The most likely candidate is Joseph Ntshongwana, but we'll have to wait to find out who exactly it is. This person decided to use his axe to decapitate a couple of his fellow Africans and killed another by hacking him with the axe. The initial motive offered was that he was avenging his daughter's  gang-rape and subsequent HIV infection. Bizarrely, the police aren't sure whether the perpetrator has any children or what the actual motive behind the murders is. Seems to me he's a few cans short of a six-pack and "snapped". Maybe one too many rugby tackles; or maybe it's because he played for the Blue Bulls?

A former Blue Bulls and South Africa U21 rugby player will appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court today in connection with last week's grisly axe killings of three men in Lamontville, Umbilo and Yellowwood Park in KwaZulu-Natal.

The 34-year-old played for the Blue Bulls' Currie Cup and Vodacom Cup teams and the South African Barbarians.
He was arrested on Tuesday - a week after the first of the bizarre deaths in southern Durban.
When police released information on the killings last week, they claimed the killer may have been avenging the rape of his daughter, who was infected with HIV during the ordeal.
However, police yesterday could not confirm whether the former rugby player has a daughter.
According to police, the axe-wielding man allegedly targeted random men who were returning from work at night.
A 27-year-old man, who narrowly escaped last Tuesday, told police he was returning from work when a man in a grey car with an Eastern Cape number plate drove past him slowly in Lamontville.
He alleged that the driver stopped the car, jumped out and accused him of raping his daughter and infecting her with HIV.
The man told police that the attacker pulled out an axe and tried to hack him, but he managed to escape.
A day later, Ndodo Hlongwa was decapitated in the area. His head was found in a bin in Himalaya Road in Merebank.
Two more bodies were found in Yellowwood Park and Umbilo.
Police allegedly found a 40cm axe and clothing belonging to one of the victims in the suspect's Yellowwood Park home.
The former rugby player will be charged on three counts of murder and attempted murder.

Brutal Rapes plague Scandanavia

Another brutal rape and murder of a beautiful Swedish girl has stunned the once crime-free Scandinavian country. African and Muslim immigrants, who are pampered by the Swedish state, are conducting a reign of terror against the native population. Africans and Muslims commit virtually all the rapes in Norway and Sweden. The victim (pictured below) was apparently a multiculturalist and supporter of nonwhite immigration into Sweden. Her attacker (pictured, below) shows the true face of multicultural enrichment.

Elin Krantz and her alleged killer were riding the same tram to the Hisingen neighbourhood near Gothenburg in western Sweden.

Shortly thereafter Krantz was raped and murdered in a wooded area not far from the tram stop, according to information from the investigation.

Krantz and a friend were heading home on the number 5 tram line from the Valand nightclub in downtown Gothenburg around 4am after a Saturday night out together, according to an account by the Aftonbladet newspaper at the time of the killing.

While Krantz’s friend got off the tram at the Hjalmar Brantingsplatsen stop, the 27-year-old continued in the direction of Gropeg√•rdsgatan. But she never came home.

A 23-year-old man was arrested shortly after the killing. On Friday he was charged with murder and aggravated rape.

According to prosecutors, the 23-year-old suspect hit and/or kicked Krantz with such force that she was left with contusions and haemorrhaging on her head, neck, arms, and legs.

The violence was so severe that it also caused nerve damage in Krantz's brain, resulting in a lack of oxygen.

The 23-year-old is suspected of having raped Krantz by holding her down and forcing her legs apart. He then allegedly dragged her body over uneven ground and then placed it on a large stone block, according to prosecutors.

According to the prosecutors, the 23-year-old showed "extreme ruthlessness".

The man, who has been in custody for more than five months, denies committing the crimes.

At the start of his time in remand, he remained silent during questioning from investigators. After several months, he finally admitted that he was at the scene of the killing, but pointed to two other men.

He also admitted riding the same tram as Krantz, but it was only when they got off at the same stop that the two exchanged any words.

South Africa: Jou ma se … advocate tells judge

The Cape Coloured race at their best. For all non-Afrikaans speaking readers, 'Jou ma se p..s' translates to 'Your mothers p.......(insert female genital description) - a typical way for the Cape Coloured to dis another person. If you've ever lived in Cape Town you will be very familiar with this terminology and only the lowest of the low use it in public (usually the Coloured's swearing at each other and watch out when alcohol is added to the mix!). In any case, here we have a Cape advocate mouthing this highly offensive phrase PLUS the f..k you phrase to a presiding judge! I guess this just goes to show that you can take the animal out of the bush (and dress him up), but you can't take the bush out of the animal........

Advocate Nehemiah Ballem

In an extraordinary outburst in the Western Cape High Court, an advocate swore at the presiding judge and then stormed out of the courtroom.

Advocate Nehemiah Ballem, apparently angry after being questioned by Judge Lee Bozalek about his late appearance, said to the judge in Afrikaans: “Jou ma se p**s, man, f**k you!”

The incident happened during the case of the State versus Godfrey Manxilane on Friday.

Ballem has acted as counsel for the accused in several high profile cases, including the Sizzler’s massacre in 2004; the case of the Elton and Wayne Smith brothers, who murdered marketing strategist Klaas Jonkheid in 2009; and SA Navy serial rapist Tsediso Letsoenya, convicted in 2009 of raping 20 women.

Bozalek, a prominent human rights lawyer in the apartheid days, has been a High Court judge since 2000.

The case began at 2.37pm, with Ballem and the state prosecutor, a Ms van Rooyen, introducing themselves to the judge.

This is a transcript, translated from Afrikaans, of the proceedings.

Judge: “Now first of all, Mr Ballem, where were you this morning?”

Ballem: “My lord, I just want to know if my clerk gave you a message?”

Judge: “Yes, we got a confused message … (about) car problems you had.”

Ballem: “Exactly. Now do you want to hear it again?”

Judge: “Excuse me?”

Ballem: “Do you want to hear the excuse again?”

Judge: “Yes.”

Ballem: “My car broke down.”

Judge: “Now why did you realise that around 10am when court proceedings were about to begin?”

Ballem: “We had to wait for the AA.”

Judge: “Yes?”

Ballem: “To tow the car away.”

Judge: “But you, no doubt, had a cellphone?”

Ballem: “I didn’t know about the case. I didn’t have my diary (sakboek) with me.”

Judge: “Your bag (sakkie) wasn’t with you?”

Ballem: “My diary wasn’t with me.”

Judge: “Yes. Could you not have phoned the High Court half an hour, an hour, before the time?”

Ballem: “Judge, how long must we hassle with this?”

Judge: “Excuse me?”

Ballem: “How long must we hassle with this? I’ve now gone to some trouble to be here.”

Judge: “Mr Ballem, perhaps you don’t realise, your first duty, if you have to appear in the High Court, is to be here, and you are not doing us a favour by being here, despite your problems. Why are you turning your face away from me while I’m speaking?”

Ballem: “Well, I asked my secretary to pass on a message and I assume she must have done so.”

Judge: “Yes, but then we got …” (interrupted)

Ballem: “Now do you want the message from me again?”

Judge: “Then we got another strange message: Could the case be postponed until Monday, a telephonic request for a postponement?”

Ballem: “Exactly. Then I got the message that you were prepared to wait for me, and now I am here.”

Judge: “You were not involved in another case this morning, were you?”

Ballem: “I was not involved, Judge. I am here now.” (He slams his hand on the desk.)

Judge: “Sir (meneer), your attitude, you must...” (interrupted)

Ballem: “But then you must not also come ...” (interrupted)

Judge: “You must be careful about your attitude, Mr Ballem, in front of the court.”

Ballem: “But then you must also not come with an attitude.”

Judge: “Excuse me?”

Ballem: “I said then you must not come with an attitude, because we are both adults, I am not your child.”

Judge: “Mr Ballem, I must tell you ...” (interrupted)

Ballem: “I said I am not your child.”

Judge: “I must warn you …” (interrupted)

Ballem: “You do exactly what you want. Do what you want.”

Judge: “You are sailing very close to the wind.”

Ballem: “Jou ma se p**s, man! F**k you!” (Ballem leaves the courtroom).

Judge: “Ms van Rooyen?”

Van Rooyen: “I don’t know what to say, my lord, except to suggest we remove the matter from the roll for today, and there we can ...” (interrupted)

Judge: “I think the matter should rather be postponed sine die (adjourned indefinitely).”

Van Rooyen: “I agree … We’ll get other legal representation and then ...” (interrupted)

Judge: “How will that be arranged?”

Van Rooyen: “My lord, I will take the case back to advocate Van der Merwe. He will arrange that someone else takes over the case … the documents are ready in any case.”

Judge: “I think it should remain with this court and I think the most appropriate order is that it be postponed indefinitely … Right, this case is postponed sine die, and Snellers (Legal Transcriptions) are requested to type all the proceedings that took place.”

When the Cape Times telephoned Judge Bozalek to ask for comment yesterday, his secretary said: “But how did you know about that? There were no press in court.” After speaking to Bozalek, she said: “The judge says he does not think it appropriate to discuss the matter with the press.”

When the Cape Times telephoned Ballem’s office, his receptionist said she had not heard from him since Friday.

“I’ve tried the whole day to get hold of him, but I can’t.”

$600 million for first week of Libyan intervention - Pentagon

As any good Socialist does, Obama is spending other people's money, even after the piggy bank is empty! The USA doesn't have 2 dimes to rub together, but Obama can find up to $100 million a week to fund his little "kinetic military action" in Libya. Just what is the USA doing in Libya? Actually, what is NATO doing in Libya? This is for the Libyans to sort out, not the rest of the world - and especially not the clueless Mr Obama who seems to be backing an Al-Qaeda operative (haha) rebel. When the Greens jump up and down in support of this little costly "intervention" then you must know something stinks in the State of Denmark. This isn't going to end well and I'm going to enjoy watching as this liberal POTUS tries to get out of the web he's weaved. I wonder what Gaddafi has on him that he's forced to turn to war? Or of course, this could a more effective way to completely bankrupt the USA as all his other plans seem to be taking way too long. Mr Soros must be so proud of him.

One week after an international military coalition intervened in Libya, the cost to U.S. taxpayers has reached at least $600 million, according figures provided by the Pentagon.

U.S. ships and submarines in the Mediterranean have launched at least 191Tomahawk cruise missiles from their arsenals, costing $268.8 million, the Pentagon said.

U.S. warplanes have dropped 455 precision guided bombs, costing tens of thousands of dollars each.

A downed Air Force F-15E fighter jet will cost more than $60 million to replace.

And operation of ships and aircraft, guzzling ever-more-expensive fuel to maintain their positions off the Libyan coast and in the skies above, could reach millions of dollars a week, experts say.

"Each sortie, even if it drops no munitions, is very pricey," said Winslow Wheeler of the Center for Defense Information. "These airplanes cost us tens of thousands of dollars to operate per hour, and the fancier you get in terms of planes, the costs get truly astounding."

The three B-2 stealth bombers that flew from Missouri to Libya and back on an early bombing mission each cost an estimated $10,000 per hour to fly, a defense official said.

That means the planes, each on a 25-hour round-trip flight, ran up a bill of $750,000, and the 45 Joint Direct Attack Munitions (JDAM) they dropped added at least $1.3 million more.

So far the Pentagon has financed the mission to take out Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's air defenses and disrupt his attacks on opposition forces using money in its existing budget, which has room for unanticipated military actions. The White House has not been forced to ask Congress for additional funds for the campaign.

Service member salaries, fuel costs and equipment maintenance are all part of annual military operating budgets. And hundreds of munitions, including the $1.4 million cruise missiles, are acquired each year and routinely used in action and training, officials say.

But experts say the administration may have to submit an emergency supplemental budget request for Libya later this year, assuming U.S. involvement in the international military operation does not end swiftly.

The cost of operating the no-fly zone over Libya alone could cost the U.S. an estimated $30 million to $100 million a week, a study by the Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments found.

USA: Military indoctrinated on gays kissing, behavior

I don't understand the Left. Their totalitarian ideology is so off-putting to normal people that you have to wonder how they continue to influence lives around the world. In the UK, only 1% of people polled admit to being gay, so I'm guessing the figure is about the same in the USA. Yet, the loony Obambi-run government is ramming a gay agenda down the military's throat. Don't worry about the tanking economy, rampant unemployment, illegal immigration or the drug war South of the border - the most important thing on Obama's to-do list is to repeal the DADT policy and enforce a more gay-friendly defence force. I suppose the commanders will need to find time between bombing Libya and fighting in Afghanistan to read the propaganda material and then practise how to answer questions that will probably never be asked. Yes, Mr Obama is once again showing us what Affirmative Action appointees and White guilt brings to gullible people and hopefully a lesson will be learnt! Seems those 9 months Obama served as a Senator wasn't enough to groom him for being the POTUS. Who knew....

Four branches of the military have begun sending training material to 2.2 million active and reserve troops as a prelude to opening the ranks to gays, with instructions on, for example, what to do if an officer sees two male Marines kissing in a shopping mall.

Key themes are that sexual orientation will no longer be a bar to service, that all service members must respect each other, and that the partners of gay troops will not receive the benefits of heterosexual spouses.

“We are going to make [gay ban] repeal training expeditiously,” said Maj. Joel Harper, an Air Force spokesman at the Pentagon. “It’s great training.”

The briefings first target commanders, who will have to enforce the new law and deal with disputes, and then the entire force. The slides, vignettes and talking points by the Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine Corps are similar.

The Marine Corps, which a Pentagon survey found holds deep opposition to lifting the ban, plans to publicly release its training material April 1. A Marine source provided copies to The Washington Times.

The vignette about seeing two male Marines kissing is part of a list of scenarios to help instructors prepare commanders for incidents likely to arise.

“Situation,” it begins. “You are the Executive Officer of your unit. While shopping at the local mall over the weekend, you observe two junior male Marines in appropriate civilian attire assigned to your unit kissing and hugging in the food court.

“Issue: Standards of Conduct. Is this within standards of personal and professional conduct?”

The answer to Marines: “If the observed behavior crosses acceptable boundaries as defined in the standards of conduct for your unit and the Marine Corps, then an appropriate correction should be made. Your assessment should be made without regard to sexual orientation.”

The vignettes’ talking point states that commanders cannot rule a bar off limits simply because it caters to gays. Nor can commanders bar an off-duty homosexual from marching in civilian clothes in a gay-pride parade.

South Africa: SAPS beat up a man and steal his belongings

Here you have proof folks, about what really happens in South Africa when the police, who are meant to protect you, get together and gave a good fisty-cuff/kicking practise session on a defenceless man. Note that his blue bag with his belongings mysteriously vanishes and that another group of cops, a little way down the road, just ignore what's happening. At the end of the beating, where it appears both policemen and policewoman had a go, the poor man is just left to sort himself out - minus his belongings, which is probably his only worldly goods. They didn't even take him to a hospital for a check-up. This is the police thuggery and brutality that is now part of everyday life in SA. Hey, maybe some liberal do-gooder will see the video and start an anti-ANC movement....yeah, and pigs will fly. This is sickening and a classic example of the African mentality I have thankfully left behind. It's in the genes and no amount of western culture or civilisation will get it out.

South Africa: Eskom makes R3bn boo-boo

How does a South African state run power company blow R3bn? By running a maintenance test on one of its turbine generators and blowing it up! What the article below neglects to state is that the person that should have had his finger on the manual trip button was not at his post during the test (he was probably sleeping in his Affirmative Action office). ESKOM, during Apartheid, had one of the best safety records of any company, but since the useless ANC gangstered the country, it has become somewhat of a joke. Pre-ANC takeover, ESKOM produced enough cheap electricity to keep not only South Africa going, but most of the African continent. Now, under the ANC, they're lucky if they produce enough electricity to power the country day to day. A few years back, the Nuclear Power Station in Cape Town went off line - again during routine maintenance - when one of the workers forgot a spanner in one of the two turbines - and it went bye-bye when it was turned back on. As a result, the country was reduced to rolling black-outs for months. Now they've managed to blow up another turbine, which will be off-line for a year. This ANC government is a joke. They couldn't implement Affirmative Action quick enough and now the country has run out of skilled workers. During Apartheid there were over 33 000 registered tradesmen and today there are less than 3000. Why? Because the ANC decided that the test standard was too hard for the Blacks to pass and dropped the standard. As a result, masses of unskilled tradies from electricians to fitters-and-turners were unleashed to displace the Whites. Yes, ANC, you reap what you sow.

Johannesburg - It may cost Eskom up to R3bn to replace the turbine generator that spun out of control and burst during a maintenance test near eMalahleni (Witbank).

But almost worse than the monetary damage is the loss of 600MW in generating capacity for more than a year.

It would take more than a year to replace the unit, said Hillary Joffe, Eskom’s head of communications. Unofficial sources reckoned it could take 18 months before a new unit, which would have to be ordered from and specially manufactured by French suppliers, could be put into operation.

Joffe did not give a cost of the repairs. But official sources put the figure as high as R3bn.

Photographs taken to investigate the damage shortly after the accident have since been widely published on the internet and show that the gigantic unit at Duvha, one of Eskom’s biggest power stations, was irreparably damaged by the explosion.

According to Joffe, an overspeed test on the unit was conducted on the evening of February 9. The turbine generator unit normally spins at 3 000 revolutions a minute when it is linked to the national power grid and the network operated at its normal 50 Hz voltage level.

But during the test the unit is disconnected from the national network. A valve controlling an enormous flow of steam to drive the turbine is then gradually opened to raise the pressure of the steam on the turbine. The speed at which the turbine rotates increases as the steam pressure rises.

Joffe said the system has a bolt that starts to cut the rotational speed of the turbine as soon as it goes 10% over the design speed of 3 000 revolutions a minute. This time the safety mechanism failed for some other reason.

As a result the turbine spun faster and faster. The rotational speed increased too quickly for anything to be done before the enormous machine burst with a tremendous explosion, with debris scattering in all directions.

The explosion ripped off several steel plates in the roof of the turbine hall. Pieces of shrapnel made hundreds of holes in the remainder of the 30m-high roof.

South Africa: Bok emblem shifts for RWC

The ANC have been trying to get rid of the Springbok as the South African rugby emblem for years - they, sniff, sniff, associate it with Apartheid (I'm not even going to go there today). Well, they've bided their time and are using the upcoming rugby World Cup in New Zealand to get rid move it to the sleeve so they can put the stupid Protea logo over the players heart, in place of the Springbok. The Springbok emblem is a legend in the world of Rugby Union - it is idolised and everyone wants to beat a Springbok - not a bloody Protea. As usual, the useless ANC has shown what a bunch of wankers they are - they couldn't even work out that if they put the stupid Protea emblem on the sleeve they could leave the Springbok where it belongs - that takes too much sense and brains. I wonder if the All Blacks remove their "emblem" and put it on the sleeve like the SA clowns. Let's see what happens after the WC....my bet is that it'll stay on the sleeve for a while and then slowly disappear, just like democracy in South Africa. The jersey looks kak.

The Springboks’ Rugby World Cup jersey has been unveiled, with the Bok emblem having moved to the left sleeve.

According to the Keo.co.za website, the IRB Rugby World Cup logo has to appear on the right-hand side of all teams’ jerseys at the tournament.

The South African Rugby Union (SARU) had asked the IRB to make an exception for the Boks, but the world governing body refused to budge, meaning the Protea (the official emblem of all South African national sports teams) is on the left-hand side of the jersey and the Bok emblem on the left sleeve.

The logo of new sponsors, Absa, is not allowed to be on the Bok jersey for the World Cup.

Yeah, I can see it going really well for the women of Egypt when the Muslim Brotherhood takes over.....And the liberals were frothing at the mouth to remove Mubarak. I don't know about you, but ANYTIME the liberals froth for anything, I chose the other option. Works for me!

Amnesty International has asked the Egyptian authorities to investigate reports of torture, including the obligation to perform a "virginity test", inflicted by soldiers on women who took part in a protest in Tahrir Square on March 9.

Eighteen women were arrested by soldiers, according to a statement by the international organisation, and claim that they were "beaten, subjected to electric shocks, forced to undress while soldiers took photographs of them and forced to take a "virginity test", amid threats of being charged with prostitution".

"Forcing women to take a "virginity test" is completely unacceptable," Amnesty says, highlighting the case of Rasha Azeb, a journalist arrested in Tahrir Square.

"According to her account, the 18 female protesters arrested were initially taken to a room in the Cairo Museum, where they were handcuffed, hit with sticks and rubber tubes, given electric shocks to their chests and legs and called prostitutes," Amnesty reports, adding that the journalist was freed a number of hours later, together with four fellow journalists, while the other 17 women were transferred to the El Heikstep military prison.

The 17 women appeared before a military court on March 11 and were released two days later, Amnesty claims, saying that "a number of them were given a one-year suspended prison sentence".

I'm going to take a stab here and guess why San Francisco is experiencing a drop in the number of children counted since the 2000 census (5000 less counted in 2010). 1. The huge gay component - no matter how many times you roll that procreation dice, the laws of nature are against them. 2. The smug social elitists - these are those liberal/greeny types who simply refuse to procreate because of their anti-life stance (thank goodness for that - can you imagine more of those mini-types running around!). Now, were I a normal person living in San  Francisco with a partner and two children, would I want to raise them in this unnatural environment? Nah, I don't think so. So, guess that answers the question. I see the one person they bothered to interview in the article below is Omar Khalif  who doesn't sound very American to me. Mr Khalif has 4 daughters and says that cutting the tax rate would assist people to have more children. Yeah, I can just see the rosy future of the gay community of San Fran in a few years - hounded out by their new Muslim masters. Oh the irony.

Despite efforts to stem the tide of family flight, the population of children in San Francisco continues to ebb.

Families that remain in The City are bucking the trend that has plagued San Francisco for years as the number of children — defined as people up to 17 years old — has dropped from 181,532 in 1960 to 107,524 today, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau figures. The 2000 census counted 112,802 youths.

The decrease is disappointing news for city officials, who have attempted to counter the family-flight trend by creating more affordable housing, improving schools and cutting costs, such as a college savings account for kindergarten enrollees.

“It’s definitely not a hopeful sign that we have 5,000 less kids,” said N’Tanya Lee, the executive director of San Francisco-based advocacy group Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth, which lobbies City Hall on budget and housing issues.

The census has yet to release a more detailed age breakdown of The City’s youth population.

A 2009 controller’s survey found families with children were no longer more likely to leave The City than other people, with the exception of families with children under the age of 6.

“The percentage of parents with young children considering a move has increased from 36 percent in 2007 to 41 percent in 2009 — though it remains lower than the 45 percent in 2005,” the report said.

“I’m very surprised,” said Margaret Brodkin, the former head of the Department Children, Youth and Their Families. “I thought we had finally turned the corner in being a more child-friendly city and keeping families in The City.”

Brodkin suggested the count might be off because it failed to account for a number of undocumented youths.

Omar Khalif, who is a proponent of a ballot measure to advise changing the campus-assignment system to ensure kids can attend school closer to home, is a father of four daughters who lives in the Bayview district. He said he’s not surprised by the trends.

“This is no longer a blue-collar town,” Khalif said. “You don’t have families moving here.”

As for what The City could do to make it easier on families to survive in San Francisco?

“How about giving families a tax break?” said Khalif, referring to the proposal to offer a payroll tax break on new hires for companies willing to locate to the mid-Market Street area. “Here we are living paycheck to paycheck.”

Mayor Ed Lee’s spokeswoman Christine Falvey said Lee has been meeting with family services organizations as he drafts a budget for next fiscal year.

“Mayor Lee is committed to keeping families in San Francisco,” Falvey said. “He is focused on job creation and economic development, two very real factors in keeping families in San Francisco.”

Madonna’s Charity Fails in Bid to Finance School

In case you were wondering (unlike me), where your money has gone when you had a brain-freeze and donated to Madonna's 'Raising Malawi' charity, then wonder no further. Eighteen million has been raised so far - funds meant to go towards building a $15 million school for 400 girls in Malawi (of course, a girls-only school is mandatory as it pulls at the liberal heart and purse strings a bit more). If you didn't already know, Madonna has adopted two children from that country so she feels she's entitled to give them advice on how to educate their kids. Madonna wants to become a major philanthropic presence in Malawi - almost like Oprah and her little girls-only school in South Africa. Umm....Madonna - I don't think the Malawian people care for your philanthropy when the healthy can just about feed and clothe themselves and the rest are dying from AIDS. In any case, many of these lefty "charities" end up on the scrap heap due to inept management and this one is no different. For a gal who is continually counting her penny's she didn't seem too concerned that the charity money was being spent on .....well, nothing, apart from outlandish salaries, cars, office space and a golf course membership, free housing and a car and driver for the school’s director - without any ground being broken for the actual school! How's that for spending other people's money on philanthropy so that Madonna can feel good about herself? I wonder how much of the $18 million has gone to the running costs of this so-called charity? It's reminiscent  of Bono's charity where 1% went to helping the poor and down-trodden and the other 99% to enriching the charity directors!

These Malawians love me - I'm a philanthropist you see

LOS ANGELES — A high-profile charitable foundation set up to build a school for impoverished girls in Malawi, founded by the singer Madonna and fellow devotees of a prominent Jewish mysticism movement, has collapsed after spending $3.8 million on a project that never came to fruition.

The board of directors of the organization, Raising Malawi, has been ousted and replaced by a caretaker board, including Madonna and her manager, officials with the organization said Thursday. Its executive director, who is the boyfriend of Madonna’s former trainer, Tracy Anderson, left in October amid criticism of his management style and cost overruns for the school. These included what auditors described as outlandish expenditures on salaries, cars, office space and a golf course membership, free housing and a car and driver for the school’s director.

Most strikingly, the plans to build a $15 million school for about 400 girls in the poor southeastern African country of 15 million — which had drawn financial support from Hollywood and society circles, as well as the Los Angeles-based Kabbalah Centre International, an organization devoted to Jewish mysticism — have been officially abandoned.

That prospective move set off a fierce backlash when first raised earlier this year, with Malawi officials saying they were stunned and asserting that Madonna was blaming management breakdowns because she had been unable to raise the money she had promised.

“A thoughtful decision has been made to discontinue plans for the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls, as it was originally conceived,” Michael Berg, a co-director of the Kabbalah Centre and the co-founder of Raising Malawi, said Thursday in an e-mail to the center’s members who had contributed to the project. The e-mail announced the replacement of the board of directors.

Madonna has lent her name, reputation and $11 million of her money to the organization that she founded with Mr. Berg. She has been a regular visitor to Malawi, attending at least two ceremonies at what would have been the site of the school in Lilongwe, and has adopted two children from the country.

On Thursday, in conceding the shortcomings of her charity, Madonna issued a statement saying she was still intent on using the organization, which has raised $18 million so far, to advance improvements in the beleaguered nation.

“There’s a real education crisis in Malawi,” she said. “Sixty-seven percent of girls don’t go to secondary school, and this is simply unacceptable. Our team is going to work hard to address this in every way we can.” She and her aides offered no explanation of why, given her high interest in the project, she had not noticed the problems as they began unfolding.

Trevor Neilson, a founder of the Global Philanthropy Group, which Madonna recruited last November amid signs of upheaval at her charity, said he told her that building an expensive school in Malawi was an ineffective form of philanthropy, and suggested instead using resources to finance education programs though existing and proven nongovernmental organizations.

Mr. Neilson said that an examination found that $3.8 million had been spent on the school that will now not be built, with much of the money going to architects, design and salaries and, in one case, two cars for employees who had not even been hired yet.

“Despite $3.8 million having been spent by the previous management team, the project has not broken ground, there was no title to the land and there was, over all, a startling lack of accountability on the part of the management team in Malawi and the management team in the United States,” he said. “We have yet to determine exactly what happened to all of that $3.8 million. We have not accounted for all the funds that were used.”

A written report by the Global Philanthropy Group, a copy of which was provided Thursday by the Kabbalah Centre, was critical of two former officials of the organization: Philippe van den Bossche, who has worked for Madonna since 2004 and was the executive director of Raising Malawi from 2005 until October, and Anjimile Oponyo, who worked at the United Nations Development Program when she was chosen last year to head the Raising Malawi Academy for Girls.

Ms. Oponyo said that she was barred from talking about her association with the foundation, and that she could not comment on the allegations in the report of mismanagement — including whether she benefited from an extravagant compensation package that included that car and driver and golf club membership.

In an e-mail, Mr. van den Bossche said he, too, was prohibited from commenting; Madonna has a history of confidentiality agreements with employees.

“I am strictly bound by the confidentiality agreements and I am forced by those agreements to be silent on any of these questions,” Mr. van den Bossche said.

Mr. Neilson said that Madonna was involved in a film project — she is directing a movie about King Edward VIII — and was not available for an interview. But in a statement, Madonna said she was pleased with other work that Raising Malawi had done in helping children in Malawi, even as she acknowledged its problems. “While I’m proud of these accomplishments, I’m frustrated that our education work has not moved forward in a faster way,” she said.

Raising Malawi will not disband and will instead use its money in different ways to help the poor in a country where Madonna has sought to become a major philanthropic presence, foundation officials said.

Madonna attended a fund-raiser hosted by Gucci in New York in 2008, whose guests also included Tom Cruise and Gwyneth Paltrow, and was on hand for what turned out to be a purely ceremonial groundbreaking and the laying off the first brick at the school. Other donors to the project include the Yankee Alex Rodriguez.

The report faulted Mr. van den Bossche for his roles both in overseeing the planning of the building and in creating the educational curriculum. “Philippe’s level of mismanagement and lack of oversight was extreme in both aspects of the project,” it said, “and the lack of success of the players on the ground is in large part a result of his inability to effectively manage project plans, people and finances.”

The report was similarly critical of Ms. Oponyo. “Her charisma masks a lack of substantive knowledge of the practical application of educational development,” it said, “and her weak management skills are a major contributor to the current financial and programmatic chaos.”

Foster parent ban: 'extreme distress' of 'anti-gay' Christians' over ruling

It's already difficult to foster out Black kids - and then the UK government intervenes to stop seasoned foster parents because they don't believe in homosexuality. Being gay is the current flavor of the month and ANYONE who even thinks they may be gay has to be told it's ok and encouraged - yes, even when you're eight. I don't know about you, but when I was eight I didn't even know what sexuality was - I did know what discipline was and I did know who would meet it out were I naughty; but, sexuality?? I'm not sure what the government thinks this couple would do to any 'potential' gay foster children they may end up with? Beat them up? Not feed them? This PC world is just getting a tad too precious for me. Time to toughen the heck up! In the meantime, children who are already in dire straights will just have to wait a bit longer for a new family - one that agrees with everything the liberals want for humanity (oh, but you can abort children to your hearts content cause that's ok, as long as you embrace the gays).

Foster parent ban: 'extreme distress' of 'anti-gay' Christians' over ruling

The couple said they felt excluded for holding “normal, mainstream, Christian views” and had been willing to “love and accept any child”.

“All we were not willing to do was to tell a small child that the practice of homosexuality was a good thing,” the couple said after losing their case at the High Court.

During the 1990s, the Pentecostal Christian couple from Derby provided foster care for nearly 20 children.

But following the introduction of equality laws, they were blocked from fostering in 2007. Social workers said the couple’s belief that homosexuality is wrong meant they were not suitable to look after a child aged between five and eight.

On Monday two High Court judges backed Derby city council by ruling that homosexual rights “should take precedence” over the rights of Christians in fostering cases.

Mr and Mrs Johns, aged 62 and 65 respectively, said they were “shocked and disappointed” by the judgment.

Mrs Johns told The Daily Telegraph: “It is just one more blow for us. It seems a dark day for Christians.”

During the case, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, an official watchdog, suggested that the couple could attend a “re-education” programme, according to Mrs Johns.

“Why do we need to be re-educated? Because we believe that homosexuality is not right?” she said. “We said we would sit down and talk to the child to find out where it is coming from.

“They said, 'No, you would have to tell the child it is all right to be homosexual because there are too many children that are confused with their sexuality.’ We thought, yes, but at eight?”

Their case was handled by Lynda Williams, a social worker, who assessed Mr and Mrs Johns in June 2008, after the council invited them to reapply to become foster parents. The national shortage of carers stands at an estimated 10,000.

In her 48-page report on the couple, Miss Williams described them as “well-meaning” and “kind and hospitable people who would always do their best to make a child welcome and comfortable”.

However, she concluded: “Mr and Mrs Johns’ views on same sex relationships, which are not in line with the current requirements of the national standards, and which are not susceptible to change, will need to be considered when the panel reaches its conclusion.”

Lord Justice Munby and Mr Justice Beatson ruled that social workers were right to take the couple’s religious views into account. Under the current rules on fostering, introduced by the Labour government, councils and fostering agencies should ensure that children “are provided with foster care services which value diversity and promote equality”.

Foster carers should “recognise and address” the child’s needs, including in terms of their sexuality. Homosexual rights campaigners welcomed the ruling.

Ben Summerskill, the chief executive of Stonewall, the lesbian, gay and bisexual charity, said: “We’re delighted that the High Court’s landmark decision has favoured 21st century decency above 19th century prejudice.”

The Christian Legal Centre reacted to the judgment with dismay and warned that “fostering by Christians is now in doubt”.

The Japanese road repaired SIX days after it was destroyed by quake

I think the Japanese are going to be fine......No thanks to the MSM carrying on about the almost non-existant nuclear 'catastrophe' - they chose to ignore the many dead from the actual Tsunami and instead focused on a minor radiation threat which has killed no one to date. I choose to focus on the dead and on how Japan is coping. Come on Haiti - this is how it's done.

The picture of gaping chasms in a Japanese highway demonstrated the power of the March 11 earthquake.

Now the astonishing speed of reconstruction is being used to highlight the nation’s ability to get back on its feet.

Work began on March 17 and six days later the cratered section of the Great Kanto Highway in Naka was as good as new. It was ready to re-open to traffic last night.

Many workers returned to their jobs the day after the quake and subsequent tsunami and some businesses in the worst-hit regions have already reopened.

The Japanese recovery has prompted some investors, including American Warren Buffett, one of the world’s richest men, to declare that the disaster which has left 23,000 dead or missing represents a ‘buying opportunity’ in the money markets.

Now you see it...: This stretch of the Great Kanto highway was wrecked by deep chasms in the March 11 earthquake - but was repaired in just six days

Online dating: The races differ

HUGE surprise here people - and this comes from the University of California-Berkeley (which is so lefty that this research has to be true). Apparently, golly-gosh, Whites still only want to date Whites - even on the web! It seems that all that propaganda and brainwashing about how it's just so cool and hip to date outside your own race (especially when you're White) has come to naught! How many billions has been wasted on forcing races Whites to mingle I wonder? Now get this interesting fact - young black men are the most likely to cross racial lines when looking for love online (I think we can safely say that this doesn't only apply to 'love' online). But, I digress. The lead author, Gerald Mendelsohn, a UC Berkeley psychologist, says there are many reasons why people may say one thing (yes, it's cool to date another race) and do another (80% Whites online contact Whites only). These were his reasons: 1. It looks cooler to say it than to do it (yes - agree); 2. Saying it and actually doing it are two different things (yes, I agree); 3. people are hypocritical! Mmmmm, guess he's having a go at the Whites here. Yes Mr Mendelsohn - no need to waste money on any further research as Lime Lite will tell you why. Whites don't dig Blacks - apart from those gullible enough to believe in the diversity fairy. We don't dig their culture or behaviour. No matter how much research you do, the bottom line stays the same. BTW - I wonder if Mr Mendelsohn is one of those hypocrites he's referring to? Sounds like he may be Jewish and we all know Jewish people tend to stick to their own. Of course, this is near San Fran so chances are he may, errr, be otherwise inclined. In any case, these researchers should be upfront and let us know their personal racial choices before they comment on ours and accuse us of hypocrisy.

With a plethora of interracial dating sites on the Web and a black president in office, one might think that we're living in a post-racial era. But, apparently, that's not the case.

According to a new University of California-Berkeley study of 1 million online daters, cyberspace is just as segregated as the real world. When it comes to dating online, whites prefer whites, research reveals. More than 80 percent of whites - even the 48 percent of males and 28 percent of females who said they were indifferent to race - sent messages to whites, and just 3 percent contacted blacks.

Researchers won't disclose which major dating site they used to compare the racial preferences and online activity of more than 1 million singles. But we do know that they found significant differences between blacks and whites. Young black men are the most likely to cross racial lines when looking for love online, and blacks, including women, were 10 times as likely to contact a white person as whites were to contact blacks.

Some people don't date outside of their race simply because they don't come into contact with people of other races in their communities, where churches, grocery stores, and housing are still quite segregated.

"There's no segregation online, which makes this data so interesting," says Gerald Mendelsohn, a UC Berkeley psychologist and lead author of the study, which analyzed online subscribers in 2009 and 2010. "Online dating is about courtship and attraction. Segregation is a physical matter but it's also a state of mind."

Mendelsohn says there are three possible reasons for the discrepancy between attitudes about interracial coupling and the actual behavior of online daters.

"It might be appearance management," he says. "They think it makes them look better to say that they're open to another race. Also, saying you're open to another race is only stage one of the dating process. Stage two is actually taking the step. Another possibility that can't be discounted is that people are just hypocritical."

Certainly, it's a touchy subject. Just talking about race can make people uncomfortable.

"I don't think I've ever dated someone outside of my race," says Stephanie of Fremont, Calif., who is white and works in retail. She asked that her last name be withheld. "I think I'm just attracted to white guys. It's what I know."

USA: White Privilege Summit 2011

Hey, for all my readers out there who hate the White race (yes, including those self-loathing, White apologists), boy have I got a treat for you! At the end of March, a 'White Privilege Summit' is being held so all the race-envious whingers can get together and rant and rave about us privileged Whites. I've come to the conclusion that the more you try to fight these bigots, the more you give them a voice. So, I bow down to their superior knowledge as they once again point out how privileged the White race is collectively - I no longer care to oppose this view. They are right and we are privileged - privileged to be White. Thanks for reminding us as we do tend to forget every now and again. So, with that in mind, you can kiss my White ass as I laugh at you and your scary little summit. Guess what? No matter how you carry on, you're still not White so hahahaha.

March 30-31 at Augustana College, Rock Island

White Privilege Summit 2011 is a community event to discuss race, privilege, inequality and the fight for social justice. We need your voice at this important summit. Free and open to the public.

What is white privilege?

Do whites benefit from racial inequality? The idea of white privilege suggests that being white in a racialized society such as ours is actually a position of advantage. If people of color face barriers and discrimination in their daily lives, what is the effect for whites? Are whites unaffected by race, or are they privileged by race? Peggy McIntosh, an anti-racist activist and scholar, describes white privilege:
"I have come to see white privilege as an invisible package of unearned assets that I can count on cashing in each day, but about which I was ‘meant' to remain oblivious. White privilege is like an invisible weightless knapsack of special provisions, maps, passports, codebooks, visas, clothes, tools, and blank checks."
White privilege is not only about experience on an individual level, but it is a web of institutional and cultural preferential treatment. It is not only about our own personal experiences, but about how society may be structured to provide opportunities for some and challenges for others.

About the summit

The White Privilege Summit provides an opportunity for critical discussions about diversity, multicultural education and leadership, social justice, race, gender, class, sexual orientation, environment, health, religion and systems of privilege/oppression.

The summit serves as an opportunity to examine and explore difficult issues related to white privilege, white supremacy and oppression. This summit is not about making white people feel guilty. The summit is about critically examining the society in which we live and working to dismantle systems of power, prejudice and inequality.

The summit is a challenging, empowering and educational experience. The keynote, workshops and small-group reflections will inform, engage and challenge participants, while providing practical tips and strategies to gain for social justice.

Detroit's Population Crashes

This article does back-flips, somersaults, the hokey-pokey and a line-dance, but  it doesn't address why people are fleeing Detroit. I'm going to give it to you straight - unlike most of the media out there. The Black African-American population love them some crime! And who better to practise this craft on than their fellow citizens. As a result, 25% of the population has fled in the past decade. Not to worry though - the AAs are stalking the Whites to their new suburbs, and as a result the crime rate has started to increase there as well. Another reason for the demise of Detroit is the union movement, which is solely responsible for destroying the very auto-industry that brought Detroit riches and recognition world-wide. The unions demanded increased wages and wonderful perks for their workers, making the cars produced uncompetitive in price. Yeah - that's what unions do folks - they just look out for you, their little worker bee (as long as you pay them your fees). Of course we shouldn't forget to mention another common reason why mainly AA run cities die: the high taxes the city demands to support more and more 'entitlements' and larger pay and benefits packages for public employees. Just see how the Mayor, Mr Bing, states in the article below that he has to magically produce another 40 000 people so that they can get more free money from the Federal government. Detroit is a poster case for why heaping entitlement on entitlement does not work - if you build up a constituency of the entitled, you must raise taxes to pay for the handouts. Businesses and individuals who can afford to (i.e. productive citizens) leave town, thus further eroding the tax base, forcing more tax increases, and cuts in services. It's vicious circle, and we are now seeing not only cities, but states, and the entire USA circling the drain. This is the inevitable consequence when you subsidise failure by punishing success.

DETROIT—The population of Detroit has fallen back 100 years.

The flight of middle-class African-Americans to the suburbs fueled an exodus that cut Detroit's population 25% in the past decade to 713,777, according to Census Bureau data released Tuesday. That's the city's lowest population level since the 1910 census, when automobile mass production was making Detroit Detroit.

The decline, the fastest in city history, shocked local officials, who had expected a number closer to 800,000. Mayor Dave Bing said the city would seek a recount.

"If we could go out and identify another 40,000 people that were missed, and it brings us over the threshold of 750,000, that would make a difference from what we can get from the federal and state government," Mr. Bing said at a news conference Tuesday.

In all, the city lost more than 237,000 residents, including 185,000 blacks and about 41,000 whites. The Hispanic population ticked up by 1,500. Meanwhile, the black population in neighboring Macomb County more than tripled to 72,723, constituting 8.6% of the county's population in 2010, compared with 2.7% a decade earlier. Oakland County's African-American population rose 36% to 164,078.

Detroit's population has fallen steadily since the heyday of the auto industry in the 1950s, when it peaked around two million, but the declines have accelerated in recent years as manufacturing jobs have disappeared and the mortgage crisis has devastated even stable, middle-class neighborhoods. The number of vacant housing units doubled in the past decade to nearly 80,000, more than one-fifth of the city's housing stock, the Census Bureau reported.

Moonbats Missing In Action…

During the Bush years:

Now that Obama is in power and launching airstrikes on Libya (pushed by France and the UK so they can keep the oil flowing) you get this:

It’s almost like they’re hypocrites.

Obama: Drill, Brazil, Drill!

The USA relies on foreign oil to power the nation. Obama has locked up the oil shale reserves in the West three times the size of Saudi Arabia's reserves of crude, and is stalling a pipeline that could provide the USA with 500,000 barrels of oil per day from Canada, with a byproduct of 13,000 immediate jobs. He's radically against any type of drilling on American soil or in their waters. He is currently visiting South America, searching for accolades, and lo and behold, doesn't Mr Hope'n'Changie tell the Brazilian people that he wants to help develop their offshore resources so that the USA can one day import the oil! Yes people - this guy is so loony that he's off the chart. Actually, I think he's insane, and I don't mean that in a good way. Lord save the Americans from this imbecile - quickly.....

While leaving U.S. oil and jobs in the ground, our itinerant president tells a South American neighbor that we'll help it develop its offshore resources so we can one day import its oil. WHAT?!?

With Japan staggered by a natural disaster and a nuclear crisis, cruise missiles launched against Libya in our third Middle East conflict and a majority of U.S. senators complaining about a lack of leadership on the budget, President Obama decided it would be a good time to schmooze with Brazilians.

His "What, me worry?" presidency has given both Americans and our allies plenty to worry about. But in the process of making nice with Brazil, Obama made a mind-boggling announcement that should make even his most loyal supporter cringe:

We will help Brazil develop its offshore oil so we can one day import it.

We have noted this double standard before, particularly when — at a time when the president was railing against tax incentives for U.S. oil companies — we supported the U.S. Export-Import Bank's plan to lend $2 billion to Brazil's state-run Petrobras with the promise of more to follow.

Now, with a seven-year offshore drilling ban in effect off of both coasts, on Alaska's continental shelf and in much of the Gulf of Mexico — and a de facto moratorium covering the rest — Obama tells the Brazilians:

"We want to help you with the technology and support to develop these oil reserves safely. And when you're ready to start selling, we want to be one of your best customers."

Obama wants to develop Brazilian offshore oil to help the Brazilian economy create jobs for Brazilian workers while Americans are left unemployed in the face of skyrocketing energy prices by an administration that despises fossil fuels as a threat to the environment and wants to increase our dependency on foreign oil.

Obama said he chose Brazil to kick off his first-ever visit to South America in recognition of that country's ascendancy. He has also highlighted one of the reasons for America's decline — an energy policy that through the creation of an artificial shortage of fossil fuels makes prices "necessarily skyrocket" to foster his green energy agenda.

In an op-ed in USA Today explaining his trip, Obama opined: "Brazil holds recently discovered oil reserves that could be far larger than ours. And as we seek to increase secure-energy supplies, we look forward to developing a strategic energy partnership."

Rev Manning - the true culture of the Black man

Africa aid has been wasted and created army of beggars, says Mandelson

I don't really know much about Mr Mandelson, but at least he's had the cojones to speak out about the endless aid and waste of money going to Africa! Give the man a Nobel Prize - it took him till after leaving his government office to make such a comment. I guess he liked his job too much to open his mouth and speak sense. If only people IN government would actually do their jobs of spending tax-payers money sensibly - but governments thrive on spending money they haven't earned the hard way. When will the world learn that throwing money at a problem has never been the solution - especially in Africa, where the dictators get to live like kings whilst their minions live in abject poverty. The UK is having serious financial problems, yet they have chosen to increase their foreign aid - yeah, makes sense. Stick it to your citizens and make third-world dictators rich! Bunch of idiots.

Handouts: Aid to foreign countries has come under scrutiny after the government last year announced that the money will be ringfenced

Most of the aid sent to Africa in the past half century has been wasted and has turned the region’s countries into ‘professional beggars’, according to Peter Mandelson.

The former Cabinet minister gave one of the harshest assessments yet of successive governments’ aid policies, warning that Britain had failed to help African economies grow.

Lord Mandelson, a former business secretary, insisted that the money should have been poured into trade rather than handouts.

The Labour peer told The Times Summit on Africa in London: ‘Most of the aid we have sent to Africa over the last five decades has probably, in the main, been wasted as far as growth is concerned.

‘I’m not anti-aid, but if you ask me where I would put my money, it would go on trade rather than aid as a key to African economic development.’

His extraordinary intervention comes as many on the Tory backbenches are questioning the wisdom of the Coalition’s policy to ringfence overseas aid while making cutbacks elsewhere.

Lord Mandelson, who is also a former EU trade commissioner, then said that the elimination of subsidies and opening up Europe’s markets was key to helping Africa.

‘Far too much EU trade policy since decolonisation has interpreted our responsibilities in Europe as shielding these economies from economic change rather than in a progressive way opening up these economies,’ he said.

This has marooned many African economies, demeaning many African governments by turning them into professional aid beggars.

‘Protectionist economies are great sources of corruption.’

But as trade commissioner, Lord Mandelson proposed a blanket duty on all leather shoes from former struggling economies such as China and Vietnam.

This was to protect manufacturers in rich, European countries. It was also under Lord Mandelson’s watch that the Doha trade talks failed, after five years of negotiations between the West and developing countries.

Malcolm Bruce, the chairman of the International Development Committee, said Lord Mandelson’s remarks were an ‘appalling admission of failure’.

Mr Bruce said: ‘He was in government and in the EU for 13 years. What was he doing?

‘He spent too much time plotting rather than trying to reform aid policy.’

Philip Davies, the Tory MP for Shipley, said he backed Lord Mandelson’s view that trade, not aid, was key to fighting poverty.

But he added: ‘It is rather depressing that Lord Mandelson has only had a dose of commonsense once he left office and it was too late for him to do anything.’

The Government has promised to ringfence spending on aid policy. It is one of only two departments to have its entire budget protected – alongside health.

While other areas face the full brunt of the government spending axe, the aid budget for the Department for International Development alone has risen by 37 per cent in real terms.

Chavez says capitalism may have ended life on Mars

The Lite Moment of the day. I bring you that comedian, Hugo Chavez, the PRESIDENT of Venezuela, who has come to the logical conclusion that capitalism ruined life on Mars (I did check the calendar and it isn't April Fool's day yet so bear with me here)! This is the man in charge of a country - granted a Communist country, but still a country. Mr Chavez - I think you've omitted some of the story. Capitalists lived on Mars where they prospered - but then the Communists invaded, destroying the planet completely. The capitalists returned to Earth with the Commies hot on their heels - where they landed in Venezuela and Cuba to continue their destruction. So you see dear reader, Mr Chavez is indeed from the Red planet - Mars!

Capitalism may be to blame for the lack of life on the planet Mars, Venezuela's socialist President Hugo Chavez said on Tuesday.

"I have always said, heard, that it would not be strange that there had been civilization on Mars, but maybe capitalism arrived there, imperialism arrived and finished off the planet," Chavez said in speech to mark World Water Day.

Chavez, who also holds capitalism responsible for many of the world's problems, warned that water supplies on Earth were drying up.

"Careful! Here on planet Earth where hundreds of years ago or less there were great forests, now there are deserts. Where there were rivers, there are deserts," Chavez said, sipping from a glass of water.

He added that the West's attacks on Libya were about water and oil reserves.

William Hague: 'Arab spring' could topple Robert Mugabe

You have to admire Mad Bob Mugabe. He's had years and years of sanctions imposed on him and his cronies, as well as many countries against him and his actions, yet he still clings to power. Of course he's managed to ruin his economy and many of his citizens have hightailed it to South Africa for sanctuary, but does he care? Not a bit. He just continues with his daily routine of hounding the last couple of farmers off their land and killing whoever opposes him. William Hague, the British Foreign Secretary, is speculating that Mad Bob may fall as his people see what is happening to the North of the continent. Yeah, wishful thinking. The people are starving - where are they going to get the energy to overthrow their tyrant?? In any case, I have a bit of a problem with the Libyan no-fly zone. Africa has had it's fair share of dictators, murdering their people at will, whilst the world and particularly the UN stand by and watch. Yet, all of a sudden they've woken from their slumber to bomb Giddafi - ostensibly to protect his citizens? How about invading Zimbabwe? Or Sudan a few years back? How about Darfur? Or even Somalia? No, they chose Giddafi. This from Obama, who promised to withdraw his troops from Afghanistan and close Gitmo. He approves the bombing of his pal Giddafi and then runs to South America to visit with the peeps down there whilst Rome burns. A true, irrational 'leader'. What has he gotten America into?

Hat tip: REXTRUT

The Foreign Secretary said that recent revolts against authoritarian leaders in countries including Libya and Egypt will have a greater historic significance than the 9/11 attacks on the US or the recent financial crisis.

Mr Hague stopped short of threatening military intervention against other dictators, but warned that they will inevitably face “judgment” for oppressing their people and suppressing democracy.

In a speech to business leaders in London, Mr Hague said that the examples being set in north Africa and the Middle East will ultimately transform the relationship between governments and their populations.

“We are only in the early stages of what is happening in North Africa and the Middle East. It is already set to overtake the 2008 financial crisis and 9/11 as the most important development of the early 21st century,” he said.

"Inspiring scenes of people taking the future of their countries into their own hands will ignite greater demands for good governance and political reform elsewhere in the world, including in Asia and in Africa."

In what will be seen as warning to Western allies including Saudi Arabia, Mr Hague added that the spreading demand for more representative government is likely to bring “some degree of political change in all countries in the Arab world.”

Repressive African regimes will also face challenges from their populations and from the international community, the Foreign Secretary said: “Demands for freedom will spread, and that undemocratic governments elsewhere should take heed.”

He added: “Governments that use violence to stop democratic development will not earn themselves respite forever. They will pay an increasingly high price for actions which they can no longer hide from the world with ease, and will find themselves on the wrong side of history.”

Britain, the US and France have said that members of the Gaddafi regime in Libya could face war crimes trials for atrocities against civilians.

“At a time of such hope and optimism in the Middle East, we cannot let the Libyan government violate every principle of international law and human rights with impunity,” Mr Hague said, suggesting that other African leaders could also face international legal tribunals.

“Governments that block the aspirations of their people, that steal or are corrupt, that oppress and torture or that deny freedom of expression and human rights should bear in mind that they will find it increasingly hard to escape the judgement of their own people, or where warranted, the reach of international law,” he said.

Mr Hague named African leaders including Mr Mugabe, who has ruled Zimbabwe since 1980.

The Zimbabwean security forces “continue to act with impunity, ramping up intimidation in order to instil fear in its opponents and to prevent the people of Zimbabwe from expressing their democratic voice,” Mr Hague said.

He also named Laurent Gbagbo of Cote d’Ivoire, who has refused to concede that he lost last year’s presidential election, and is “sanctioning attacks on defenceless civilians in a desperate attempt to cling illegitimately to power”.

Despite repression in some countries, Mr Hague said that Africa now stands at a “turning point” that could lead to economic growth and political reform benefiting millions of people.
