This very crowded isle: England is most over-populated country in EU

Ministers have indicated that they will be caping immigration next year - although some in the Coalition government are hostile to such a move - they want to see even more people move to the country! Good luck with that...

England is now the most overcrowded country in Europe.

It has more people per square mile than the Low Countries, which has long been the most densely-populated region of the continent, MPs have been told.

Only tiny Malta, an island city state with a population no bigger than that of Bristol, has greater population pressure among the 27 EU members.

The confirmation of England's position at the head of the European overcrowding league table was given by the highly authoritative House of Commons library, which examined figures from the Office for National Statistics and the EU's Eurostat.

Officials said that by next year England will have 402.1 people for every square kilometre, overtaking the figure of 398.5 in Holland and 355.2 in Belgium.

The density of the population in England by 2011 will be more than four times that of France, which has 99.4 for each square kilometre.

According to the Commons Library estimates, it will reach double the density of Germany in 20 years' time, when there will be nearly 460 people for every square kilometre in England against 224 in Germany.

The overcrowding figures come in advance of fresh official figures on immigration and its impact on the size of the population due for release today.

Ministers have promised to bring in a cap on immigration next year to bring numbers of arrivals down to 1990s levels and ease population pressures.

However some members of the Coalition, notably Business Secretary Vince Cable, are hostile to any move to reduce immigration and sympathetic to calls from industry to allow more foreign workers into the country.

The figures have underlined concerns over the effects of rising population on transport and housing, and on both cities and countryside, as numbers rise towards the officially predicted level of 70million by 2029.

Obama administration reports to the UN on human rights issues in U.S.

I think I'm going to cry. That the USA, a once proud, world leading country, under the watch of the traitor Obama, has submitted a report on the state of human rights in the USA to the UN. Please read below to see who contributed to the report - it's the who's-who of progressive liberal wankers. Shame on you Obama - you have the audacity to submit a report to the very oppressors of people who make up that UN council. Shame, shame, shame on you...

Under the administration of Barack Hussein Obama, the United States submitted its first ever “Universal Periodic Review (UPR) report” to the United Nations. This is the first time in the history of the United Nations that the U.S. has submitted a report to the United Nation’s Human Rights Council, which is the first step in submitting the United States to international review by some of the most repressive and abusive nations in the world. The 29-page report can be read here.

The report is the product of about a dozen conferences held across the U.S. between January and April 2010. The participants of these conferences featured such luminaries as Stephen Rickard and Wendy Patten, from George Soros’ Open Society Institute; Devon Chaffee, Human Rights First; Andrea Prasow, Human Rights Watch; Imad Hamad (a suspected member of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), a Marxist-Leninist terrorist organization), American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee; Dawud Walid, Council American Islamic Relations; Nabih Ayad, Michigan Civil Rights Commission; Ron Scott, Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality; Osama Siblani, Arab American News; Shannon Minter, National Center for Lesbian Rights and Cynthia Soohoo, Center for Reproductive Rights, among others.

According to its authors, the report to the United Nations “gives a partial snapshot of the current human rights situation in the United States, including some of the areas where problems persist in our society.” Obviously, one of the “problems” identified with the report is illegal immigration and Arizona’s own initiate to solve the problem through state legislation. SB 1070 has been a particularly thorny issue to the Obama administration, which has now been moved to an international venue and potential international oversight by the United Nations. The stakes for our national sovereignty have been just raised by the submission of this document, which is the first step of “voluntary compliance” to the provisions of the United Nations’ Human Rights Council.

It is no surprise that the report is dripping with the all too familiar “blame America first” rhetoric that has been the gold-standard of “citizen of the world” Barack Hussein Obama. The report promises that “President Obama remains firmly committed to fixing our broken immigration system…” and promises to work “with fellow members of the Human Rights Council.”

Taking counsel from the list of individuals and organizations, some who have openly called for the subjugation of our country to the United Nations and supported our enemies, while engaging in self-flagellation before an international body of dubious distinction… it’s the “gold-standard” of Barack Hussein Obama.

'Son of Hamas' warns U.S. fatally falling for lies

I've edited the article below as it's quite lengthy, but well worth the read. If you'd like to read the original article, click here. This is a pretty good summary of how the Muslim Brotherhood plans to take over the USA and the rest of the world. We all wish that they were dreaming, but it makes scary reading and we need to take notice as what is described is happening all over the West. Who would have thought that after 9/11 the USA would stupidly allow Muslims into their country?  Now with Obummer as President anything is possible. Time to toughen up people!

Mosab Hassan Yousef

As the son of a Hamas co-founder who became a Christian, a spy for Israel and a consultant to the Holy Land Foundation terror-finance trial, Mosab Hassan Yousef offers a rare perspective on the Egypt-based Muslim Brotherhood – at once the spawn of nearly every major Islamic terrorist group and of "mainstream" operatives in the U.S. such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

Yousef, who recently was granted asylum in the U.S. after the Department of Homeland Security tried to deport him, told that the ultimate goal of the highly influential Brotherhood is not terrorism but to establish a global Islamic state over the entire world.

"If they can establish this in a peaceful manner, that's fine," he said. "But they are required by the Quran to establish this global Islamic state on the rubble of every civilization, every constitution, every government."

The Holy Land Foundation trial in Dallas in 2008 – the largest terror-finance case in U.S. history – presented evidence of the Muslim Brotherhood's "100-year plan" to gradually destroy the U.S. and Western civilization from within "so that it is eliminated and Allah's religion is made victorious over all other religions."

"This is not a doctrine of some freak Muslim," Yousef observed. "It's the doctrine, the requirement, of the god of Islam himself and his prophet, whom they praise every day."

One of the Brotherhood's prime strategies to help achieve its ultimate aim is to spin off groups such as the Washington, D.C.-based Council on American-Islamic Relations, or CAIR, that attempt to give Islam a positive face, he pointed out.

CAIR, casting itself as a human rights organization, has often been called on by government and media to represent Muslims in the U.S. But it's origin as a front group for the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas is now widely documented.
CAIR and some of its leaders were confirmed by the Justice Department as unindicted co-conspirators in the trial of the Texas-based Holy Land Foundation, which was convicted of helping fund Hamas.
At the Holy Land Foundation trial, the FBI presented a transcript from a wiretap of a 1993 meeting in Philadelphia in which Hamas supporters sought to establish Muslim organizations in the U.S. "whose Islamic hue is not very conspicuous." CAIR was soon founded by two Palestinian participants in the Philadelphia meeting, Omar Ahmad and Nihad Awad.

Wiretaps revealed Ahmad argued for using Muslims as an "entry point" to "pressure Congress and the decision makers in America" to change U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East. One FBI official quoted in "Muslim Mafia" says CAIR and the other Muslim Brotherhood front groups differ from al-Qaida only in their methods.

"The only difference between the guys in the suits and the guys with the AK-47s is timing and tactics," the official explained.

While CAIR repeatedly has denied it receives foreign support, the covert operation that produced "Muslim Mafia" obtained video footage that captured CAIR spokesman Ibrahim Hooper boasting of his ability to bring in a half million dollars of "overseas money," including from Saudi Arabia.

Money continues to flow in the other direction, as well, Yousef said.

He noted the FBI documented that the Holy Land Foundation sent $12.4 million from the U.S. to Hamas committees. But based on his 10 years of experience as a spy for the Israeli internal security service Shin Bet, he believes many times that amount has been smuggled to Hamas in cash.

As an example, Yousef cited the case of a Palestinian terror operative he met in prison who was arrested transporting $100,000 after Shin Bet provided information to law enforcement authorities.

"I guarantee you that there still people who collect money in mosques that go directly to Hamas in cash," Yousef said. "And this is a problem that the government doesn't have control over. Obama doesn't have control over this money."

'Hamas is the Muslim Brotherhood'

Hamas itself was formed in 1987 as part of the Muslim Brotherhood's strategy to advance the movement by spinning off new organizations, Yousef said.

"If they have a confrontation with Israel as the Muslim Brotherhood, they are going to pay a very high price," he explained. "So they choose people like my father, from the Muslim Brotherhood originally, and they ask them to establish an independent movement that shares the same exact doctrine."

Yousef worked alongside his father, Sheik Hassan Yousef, in the West Bank city of al-Ghaniya near Ramallah while secretly embracing Christian faith and serving as a Shin Bet spy. Since publicly declaring his faith in August 2008, he has been condemned by an al-Qaida-affiliated group and disowned by his family.

"Hamas is the Muslim Brotherhood," Yousef said. "It's the same organization."

The Muslim Brotherhood, founded in the 1920s in the wake of the collapse of the Ottoman Turkish empire, considers itself an instrument of the charge Muslims have been given since Islam's founding 1,400 years ago – to make the Quran and Allah's authority supreme over the entire world.

Along with CAIR, prominent U.S. organizations launched by Muslim Brotherhood leaders include the Muslim Students Association, North American Islamic Trust, the Islamic Society of North America, the American Muslim Council, the Muslim American Society and the International Institute of Islamic Thought.

"Before we start to listen to their lies," Yousef said, "we have to ask ourselves all the time, what is the goal of the Muslim Brotherhood? Ask them, 'What do you want?'"

He said the Muslim Brotherhood "will keep the hope and the ultimate goal very clear in the eyes of every Muslim who belongs to the organization that one day [we will] establish an Islamic state and establish Shariah law."

In unusually candid moments, CAIR leaders have expressed that aim.

CAIR founder Ahmad was reported telling a Muslim group in the San Francisco Bay area that Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant and that the Quran should become the highest authority in America and Islam the only accepted religion on Earth. CAIR spokesman Hooper indicated in a 1993 interview with the Minneapolis Star Tribune he wants to see the U.S. become a Muslim country "through education."

The West, Yousef said, has fallen for the "lie" that there are two types of Islam, radical and moderate. While there may be individual Muslims who are radical or moderate, Islam itself is not moderate, he contends.

"Let's learn what Islam says about itself," Yousef said. "Forget about what the Muslim Brotherhood, what al-Qaida, what Hezbollah – what even Americans or Westerners say about Islam. Let's study and see what Islam says about itself, then we will understand why we have this problem."

'Buying the lie'
American foreign policy, especially under President Obama, he said, has "bought the lie of Muslim groups who are trying to make Islam look good in the eyes of Westerners."

Because of that approach, he said, Muslim leaders such as Feisal Abdul Rauf have developed "the courage to come forward with a very aggressive symbol" of Islamic authority, the proposed Islamic center and mosque near the site of the 2001 World Trade Center attacks.

"If it was any other American president, we wouldn't have this aggressive step," Yousef contended.

He noted the State Department has designated Rauf an ambassador to the Muslim world despite the imam's unwillingness to condemn Hamas as a terrorist group.

"Of course, he cannot condemn Hamas, because he knows that Hamas is an organization that is doing the will of Allah," Yousef said. "How can he condemn an organization that serves the same god that he worships every day five times?"

Yousef pointed out Rauf has claimed Obama based his highly publicized Cairo speech to the Muslim world last year on a chapter from the Arabic version of Rauf's book, "A Call to Prayer From the World Trade Center: Islamic Dawah in the Heart of America Post-9/11."

Obama asserted in the speech that violent extremists have exploited tensions between Muslims and the West, insisting Islam was not part of the problem but part of promoting peace.

'This is the red line'
Defenders of the proposed Ground Zero mosque cite American Muslims' First Amendment freedoms to practice their religion.

But Yousef makes a distinction between Islam and other religions, arguing Islam is a subversive system that threatens America's very existence.

"Even if it's a religion, and 1.5 billion people around the world believe in it, this doesn't mean that they are right; and this doesn't mean that we compromise with them," he said. "We tell them, 'You're accepted, but guess what? This is the red line: We don't compromise with your god. We don't compromise with your belief system.'"

Yousef reasoned that he certainly would not be allowed to create a religion in which he demanded that his followers kill everyone who doesn't embrace his beliefs.

"Will I be able to register this religion here and build my symbols for this religion in this country?" he asked. "I will go to jail for that – and all my followers as well."

'A matter of life and death'
No one in the Middle East has the courage or the power to confront Islam, he said, but transformation can start in the most powerful country in the world.

"Instead of giving Islam credit, this is the country where we can start to fight – not against Muslims, against the bad teachings of Islam."

Americans can begin, he said, by "understanding the real nature of Islam."

"I am telling you, this is not a matter of politics," he said. "It's a matter of life and death. It's a matter of hundreds of millions who have been killed because of this deadly ideology of Islam that has been here 1,400 years."

"This is the time" to speak out, he said, "especially here in America. This is the time to stand firm and strong against this crazy, big system."

Yousef said that while some may want to "scare people about Islam" for some kind of financial or personal profit, he is speaking out because of his concern for America and as "a person who loves my people."

"I cannot wait for them to be liberated," he said of his fellow Palestinians and Muslims worldwide. "And when I see the example of liberty and freedom in this country, I want this to go to my people."

If America leads the way in confronting Islam, change can come, he said.

"But if the country of liberty and freedom welcomes a radical and violent belief that wants to destroy everything, we won't be able to defeat them," he said.

"This is why we need to work all together. This is not for America only. This is for the world. This is for the future of humanity."

USA: A Difference Of Attitude

The difference between Obama and Reagan:

This is not something that we’re just doing to grow government. We’re doing this because this is what the best minds tell us needs to be done. — President Barack Obama, House Democratic retreat in Williamsburg, Va., pressing for passage of his stimulus plan, February 2009

Anytime you and I question the schemes of the do-gooders, we’re denounced as being against their humanitarian goals. They say we’re always “against” things—we’re never “for” anything. Well, the trouble with our liberal friends is not that they’re ignorant; it’s just that they know so much that isn’t so. — President Ronald Reagan, speech to the American people, October 1964

President Reagan sure had a way with words (and with fiscal policy), and is Barack Obama exhibiting Einstein’s definition of insanity?

Sweden Democrats publish report on rape

The Sweden Democrats presented a report on Wednesday showing that of 114 convictions for rape in 2009, 48 percent involved men born outside Sweden. Could someone please explain "the definition of rape differs too greatly among countries"? Is this the best the happy-clappy brigade can do to defend the indefensible?

"This sample is less than half of the court rulings last year," said Klara Hradilova Selin at The National Council for Crime Prevention (Brå) which compiles official statistics on crimes committed and reported in Sweden.

The Sweden Democrats have gone through 114 district court rulings from 2009 in cases of rape or aggravated rape. 48 percent (or 55 cases) of the convicted rapists were born outside of Sweden, with 39.5 percent of the total born outside of Europe.

The 55 convictions constitute an over representation of overseas-born as a group. There were 648,426 overseas-born males registered as resident in Sweden in 2009 of a population of 9.34 million.

According to Brå statistics men account for 98 percent of all rapes in Sweden.

According to the Sweden Democrats the over-representation is due to cultural differences, and that the view on rape and on women varies significantly between cultures. But Brå dispute that any conclusions can be drawn from the statistics.

"There were 253 court judgements last year, there were 6,000 rapes reported to the police and the Sweden Democrats have chosen 114 cases," said Klara Hradilova Selin to The Local.

Selin also rejected the Sweden Democrats claim that there is something of a "wave of rapes" sweeping Sweden, with the country enduring the highest incidence of rape in Europe.

The comparison can not be done, according to Selin, the definition of rape differs too greatly among countries. Since a 2005 law change Sweden has one of the broadest definitions of rape in an international perspective.

Sweden Democrats' party leader Jimmie Åkesson has meanwhile rejected the argument that it is irresponsible for a politician to draw conclusions from such a small sample.

"I think that it is a reasonable limitation. It confirms the same pattern in other reports which, for example Brå has done, and confirms also patterns seen in some foreign countries," Åkesson told news agency TT.

But Klara Hradilova Selin argues that it is impossible to draw any general conclusions over rape from Brå statistics.

"There simply aren't any statistics which indicate the actual incidence of rape - it is the crime with the highest degree of hidden statistics and most cases are not even reported," she told The Local.

The Sweden Democrats have identified the incidence of rape as the "key equality issue of the election campaign" and argue that tighter controls on immigration would help to address the issue as well as placing a ten year trial period for new citizens.

They further propose to raise the penalties for rape and spend 1 billion kronor ($134 million) annually on measures to rebuild risk areas, adding cameras and improving lighting.

This is why there are no jobs in America

A great way to explain the American way of life and taxes....ain't life grand?

I'd like to make you a business offer.

Seriously. This is a real offer. In fact, you really can't turn me down, as you'll come to understand in a moment...

Here's the deal. You're going to start a business or expand the one you've got now. It doesn't really matter what you do or what you're going to do. I'll partner with you no matter what business you're in – as long as it's legal.

But I can't give you any capital – you have to come up with that on your own. I won't give you any labor – that's definitely up to you. What I will do, however, is demand you follow all sorts of rules about what products and services you can offer, how much (and how often) you pay your employees, and where and when you're allowed to operate your business. That's my role in the affair: to tell you what to do.

Now in return for my rules, I'm going to take roughly half of whatever you make in the business each year. Half seems fair, doesn't it? I think so. Of course, that's half of your profits.

You're also going to have to pay me about 12 percent of whatever you decide to pay your employees because you've got to cover my expenses for promulgating all of the rules about who you can employ, when, where, and how. Come on, you're my partner. It's only "fair."

Now ... after you've put your hard-earned savings at risk to start this business, and after you've worked hard at it for a few decades (paying me my 50 percent or a bit more along the way each year), you might decide you'd like to cash out – to finally live the good life.

Whether or not this is "fair" – some people never can afford to retire – is a different argument. As your partner, I'm happy for you to sell whenever you'd like ... because our agreement says, if you sell, you have to pay me an additional 20 percent of whatever the capitalized value of the business is at that time.

I know, I know. You put up all the original capital. You took all the risks. You put in all of the labor. That's all true. But I've done my part, too. I've collected 50 percent of the profits each year. And I've always come up with more rules for you to follow each year. Therefore, I deserve another, final 20 percent slice of the business.

Oh ... and one more thing.

Even after you've sold the business and paid all of my fees, I'd recommend buying lots of life insurance. You see, even after you've been retired for years, when you die, you'll have to pay me 50 percent of whatever your estate is worth.

After all, I've got lots of partners and not all of them are as successful as you and your family. We don't think it's "fair" for your kids to have such a big advantage. But if you buy enough life insurance, you can finance this expense for your children.

All in all, if you're a very successful entrepreneur, if you're one of the rare, lucky, and hard-working people who can create a new company, employ lots of people, and satisfy the public, you'll end up paying me more than 75 percent of your income over your life. Thanks so much.

I'm sure you'll think my offer is reasonable and happily partner with me, but it doesn't really matter how you feel about it because if you ever try to stiff me – or cheat me on any of my fees or rules – I'll break down your door in the middle of the night, threaten you and your family with heavy, automatic weapons, and throw you in jail.

That's how civil society is supposed to work, right? This is America, isn't it?

That's the offer America gives its entrepreneurs. And the idiots in Washington wonder why there are no new jobs.

Sweden Loses Patience With Refugee Champion Role

I generally don't have much sympathy for Sweden seeing as they were at the front of the queue hounding South Africa during Apartheid. Seems like they have come full circle and have realised that to take all the worlds refugees is harming their own country (you don't say!). Good to see that Sweden is currently under a center-right government and they seem to be doing right by the country...

Six years after his brother was beheaded by Iraqi insurgents, Riyad is still haunted by the memory of identifying the disfigured body and watching the mutilation on a video distributed by the killers.

Yet Riyad now has fresh worries to contend with: the threat of deportation from Sweden, which recently rejected his application for asylum. “They murdered my brother and would have done the same to me,” he told an immigration official in a secretly recorded meeting broadcast on Radio Sweden.

“Yes, I know that,” replied the official. “But it doesn’t count that they might do the same thing to you; you have to prove there is an actual threat.”

Riyad, who worked with his brother on a US army base, was drawn to Sweden by its reputation as the most welcoming European country for Iraqi asylum-seekers, having absorbed tens of thousands in the past decade. In the past two years, however, numbers have dropped sharply as Sweden shows signs of losing patience with its role as champion of refugee rights.

In 2007, 18,559 Iraqis sought asylum in Sweden and nearly three-quarters were accepted. Last year the number arriving was 2,297—and less than a quarter were granted asylum.

The decline can be explained partly by better security in Iraq. But experts say the main factor was a Swedish court ruling in 2008 placing a greater burden on refugees to prove they were in danger.

Tobias Billström, Sweden’s migration minister, insists there was no political involvement in the ruling, but the centre-right government has been quick to stress the court’s message. “Now you have to show there is a real threat,” he says. “You cannot just turn up and say you’re from Iraq.”

The tougher approach is welcomed by some Swedes, amid unease over the changing face of their traditionally homogenous society. More than a tenth of the population is now foreign-born, with Iraqis among the largest group.

Anti-immigration sentiment could make itself felt in next month’s general election, with opinion polls suggesting the far-right Sweden Democrats could win their first seat in parliament.

Few places feel the tension more than Södertälje, an industrial town where 8,000 Iraqis live, many in high-rise ghettos. Anders Lago, the town’s Social Democratic mayor, says the strain on public services is unsustainable. “We need a new system. Södertälje cannot take care of everybody.”

Behind Sweden’s new approach lies frustration that other European Union states have not taken more refugees. Before the ruling, Sweden received about 60 per cent of Iraqi asylum applications in the EU.

If Stockholm is sending a message to other countries, critics say it has come at a heavy price for vulnerable refugees. It was among four European nations recently rebuked by the UNHCR for forcibly deporting asylum-seekers to Iraq despite the continuing violence.

Mikael Ribbenvik, director of legal affairs for the Swedish migration board, said his agency had issued new recommendations to take account of persecution of minorities in Iraq—a sign, perhaps, Sweden is anxious not to let its humanitarian halo slip too far. But this may be too late for Riyad, who says he would be at risk in Iraq not only because of his past ties to the US military, but also his Christian faith. “I don’t have to remain here,” he told Radio Sweden. “Just send me anywhere in the world—except Iraq.”

USA: Used car prices skyrocket a year after Cash for Clunkers

This is Obama-logic at its best. This President has managed in the last two years to out-spend ALL the other USA Presidents put together...! With logic like this, what's the bet the USA gets deeper into debt under his watch? Hope and change - three words that's going to haunt the US for a long time (together with "fundamentally transform")...

With home prices falling, fewer people employed, and every economic indicator on the dashboard flashing red, deflation has started to become a big enough worry that the Fed has adjusted its monetary policy to account for it. There are no such worries in the used-car industry, however. Prices have jumped 10% overall and in some cases as much as a third for used cars, thanks not to demand as much as a restricted supply after the government destroyed billions of dollars in assets as part of its Cash for Clunkers program last year:
Car buyers on average paid $1,800 more for a used vehicle in July than they paid a year ago at this time, according to Edmunds.com data. That’s a 10.3 percent increase, bringing the average cost of a 3-year-old vehicle to $19,248. The price of a Cadillac Escalade spiked nearly 36 percent. “A lack of confidence in the economy is driving more people to used cars, putting upward pricing pressure on a limited supply of vehicles,” said Joe Spina, a senior analyst for Edmunds. …
Spina said that at this time last year, a troubled economy had consumers buying less- expensive fuel-efficient vehicles and trading in “gas guzzlers” through Cash for Clunkers (more formally known as the Car Allowance Rebate System). “Now, those who need trucks and large SUVs are buying them and in many cases are turning to used vehicles as a way to save money,” he said. ”Prices are high because this demand comes at a time when inventory is low as a result of the current shortage of lease returns and trade-ins for vehicles of this type.” And, he said, while prices are indeed very high now, last year’s prices were low, making the gains even more dramatic.
In other words, there was real and rational demand for the cars that the Obama administration sent to the grinders. That demand hasn’t stopped, even if tainted with political incorrectness. The top four vehicles for price increases in Edmunds’ used-car tracking are all high-end, larger cars or SUV:

Cadillac Escalade – 35.6% increase

Chevy Suburban – +34.2%

Dodge Grand Caravan – +34%

BMW X5 – +33%

As predicted last year, the people most hurt by the price increases are those who can least afford them. The used-car market usually attracts people who need transportation on a budget, who cannot afford to buy new. By destroying a quarter’s worth of trade-ins in three weeks and permanently taking them off the market, the Obama administration has forced an artificial inflation by supply restriction. Moreover, they did so by subsidizing new-car sales that would have occurred anyway, eating up three billion dollars in taxpayer money.

In other words, the White House spent $3 billion to make used cars more expensive for working-class families. Nice work.

James Cameron—King of Hypocrites

Don't you love it when these tree-hugging alarmists try and take on the climate change "deniers" - and when challenged they run with their tail between their legs? James Cameron - he of the painful Avatar movie - challenged climate deniers to a debate. Seems like Mr Cameron decided that he actually didn't really care about climate change after all and didn't bother showing up...

Last March James Cameron sounded defiant.

The Avatar director was determined to expose journalists, such as myself, who thought it was important to ask questions about climate change orthodoxy and the radical "solutions" being proposed.

Cameron said was itching to debate the issue and show skeptical journalists and scientists that they were wrong.

“I want to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out with those boneheads," he said in an interview.

Well, a few weeks ago Mr. Cameron seemed to honor his word.

His representatives contacted myself and two other well known skeptics, Marc Morano of the Climate Depot website and Andrew Breitbart, the new media entrepreneur.

Mr. Cameron was attending the AREDAY environmental conference in Aspen Colorado 19-22 August. He wanted the conference to end with a debate on climate change. Cameron would be flanked with two scientists. It would be 90 minutes long. It would be streamed live on the internet.

They hoped the debate would attract a lot of media coverage.

"We are delighted to have Fox News, Newsmax, The Washington Times and anyone else you'd like. The more the better," one of James Cameron's organizers said in an email.

It looked like James Cameron really was a man of his word who would get to take on the skeptics he felt were so endangering humanity.

Everyone on our side agreed with their conditions. The debate was even listed on the AREDAY agenda.

But then as the debate approached James Cameron's side started changing the rules.

They wanted to change their team. We agreed.

They wanted to change the format to less of a debate—to "a roundtable". We agreed.

Then they wanted to ban our cameras from the debate. We could have access to their footage. We agreed.

Bizarrely, for a brief while, the worlds most successful film maker suggested that no cameras should be allowed-that sound only should be recorded. We agreed

Then finally James Cameron, who so publicly announced that he "wanted to call those deniers out into the street at high noon and shoot it out," decided to ban the media from the shoot out.

He even wanted to ban the public. The debate/roundtable would only be open to those who attended the conference.

No media would be allowed and there would be no streaming on the internet. No one would be allowed to record it in any way.

We all agreed to that.

And then, yesterday, just one day before the debate, his representatives sent an email that Mr. "shoot it out " Cameron no longer wanted to take part. The debate was cancelled.

James Cameron's behavior raises some very important questions.

Does he genuinely believe in man made climate change? If he believes it is a danger to humanity surely he should be debating the issue every chance he gets ?

Or is it just a pose?

The man who called for an open and public debate at "high noon" suddenly doesn't want his policies open to serious scrutiny.

I was looking forward to debating with the film maker. I was looking forward to finding out where we agreed and disagreed and finding a way forward that would help the poorest people in the developing and developed world.

But that is not going to happen because somewhere along the way James Cameron, a great film maker, has moved from King of the World to being King of the Hypocrites.

Amid Budget Woes, L.A. Unveils Nation's Most Expensive School With $578M Price Tag

With an eye-popping price tag of $578 million, it will mark the inauguration of the nation's most expensive public school ever. The K-12 complex is to house 4,200 students and has raised eyebrows across the country as the creme de la creme of "Taj Mahal" schools....Recession? What recession!

Purely out of curiosity, and on the assumption that the average public school should cost less to build than, say, a luxurious palatial chateau, I wanted to know how the most expensive homes on Earth stacked up next to this apocalyptic sinkhole. According to a report last November in Forbes, number one was the 100-room Spelling mansion listed at … $150 million.

So there you go, kids. There won’t be any jobs waiting for you when you get out, but you’ll have the time of your life until then. Enjoy the infrastructure!

“There’s no more of the old, windowless cinderblock schools of the ’70s where kids felt, ‘Oh, back to jail,’” said Joe Agron, editor-in-chief of American School & University, a school construction journal. “Districts want a showpiece for the community, a really impressive environment for learning.”…
“New buildings are nice, but when they’re run by the same people who’ve given us a 50 percent dropout rate, they’re a big waste of taxpayer money,” said Ben Austin, executive director of Parent Revolution who sits on the California Board of Education. “Parents aren’t fooled.”…
“Architects and builders love this stuff, but there’s a little bit of a lack of discipline here,” said Mary Filardo, executive director of 21st Century School Fund in Washington, D.C., which promotes urban school construction…
James Sohn, the district’s chief facilities executive, said the megaschools were built when global raw material shortages caused costs to skyrocket to an average of $600 per square foot in 2006 and 2007 — triple the price from 2002. Costs have since eased to $350 per square foot.
The cost didn’t come out of the state education budget; it was raised via $20 billion in voter-approved bonds, presumably as part of a “We’re going to dump half a billion dollars on a single school” campaign. But look on the bright side: As insane as the expense is, and as horrible as L.A’s school system is, at least they didn’t bulldoze any homes to build it.

Canada: Tamils playing us for fools

If 71% of the ‘refugees’ in Canada feel safe enough to return for a vacation in Sri Lanka, how bad can things actually be?

How bad is life back in Sri Lanka for Tamil refugees?

Are they tortured? Do they have a well-founded fear of persecution?

Are things so bloody bad over there that we have to let a boatload of them into Canada, just because they showed up?

That’s what we’re told by immigration lawyers, bleeding heart politicians and fashionable journalists who don’t believe Canada should have any borders at all.

But what about actual Tamil refugees here in Canada? How bad do they think life is back home?

As QMI’s investigative report shows, 71% of Tamil refugees here in Canada think things back in Sri Lanka are good enough that they’ve gone back home for a vacation.

Canadian immigration officials randomly surveyed 50 Tamils already here, who are trying to “sponsor” more people to come over, too. Of those would-be sponsors, 31 are refugees. And 22 of those admit to going back to Sri Lanka.

That would be like Jews who fled Nazi Germany deciding to go back to Berlin to hear the opera. Sorry, it just doesn’t add up.

The Tamils are playing us for fools. They’re not genuine refugees. Genuine refugees don’t go back to a country that’s persecuting them.

The benign interpretation is that they went back for a vacation. But there’s the real possibility that some went back to help the Tamil Tiger terrorist group wage its war against Sri Lanka.

The no-borders left has argued that because Canada accepted 85% of Tamil refugee claims last year, that’s “proof” Sri Lanka is a bad place.

But that high number doesn’t tell us anything about Sri Lanka, a place that the UN High Commissioner on Refugees says is so much improved that no country in the world should assume that Tamils are refugees.

No, what that 85% number tells us is that our Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB), the independent judges who are supposed to screen out bogus refugees, is totally broken.

The IRB judges are letting almost all the Tamils in. And many of those they reject stay here anyway. According to Sheila Fraser, the auditor general, 63,000 would-be refugees who have been ordered deported from Canada are still here, and the government has lost track of where 41,000 of them are.

The 85% acceptance figure was suspicious enough, based on the UN’s comments. But now that we know 71% of Tamil refugees travel back and forth to Sri Lanka, it’s more than a scandal. It’s wholesale fraud.

If Jason Kenney, the immigration minister, was responsible for that 85% acceptance rate, and the 71% fraud rate, the opposition would rightfully call on him to resign. But it’s the IRB judges, not Kenney, who make the decisions.

Brian Goodman is the chair of the IRB. It’s his job to make sure his judges are competent and skeptical. At least one of those components is obviously missing. Goodman must go.

But that’s just the start. The only way to restore confidence in the system — and respect for the value of Canadian citizenship — is to have an audit of every Tamil refugee to see if they, too, took vacations back to Sri Lanka, after swearing they were terrified to be there. Those who went back should be denaturalized — stripped of their immigration status and deported immediately.

South Africa: Ruling against whites-only fund disputed

So, this is how the law works. You die and leave an education fund behind for poor white females. Fast forward 70 years and the University in charge of the fund takes the fund to court to delete the words white from the fund so that all races can get access to the money. What a load of rubbish! If someone dies and leaves a will and stipulates the beneficiaries you can't change the terms just because you think it's not part of the modern world. I can 100% guarantee you that if the fund was for poor black females NO ONE would change the wording. Moral of the story - don't leave money to these types of institutions if they are one day going to change the terms of the fund just because they can and against your stipulated wishes....
A high court ruling which made an educational fund for poor white girls available to girls from all races was disputed in the Supreme Court of Appeal on Monday.

The curators of the multi-million-rand Emma Smith Educational Fund at the University of KwaZulu-Natal brought the appeal after the high court ruled against them.

The university had sought an order that would delete the words "European", "British" and "or Dutch South African" from the trust that was established according to the will of the late KwaZulu-Natal industrialist Sir Charles George Smith, who died in 1941.

The trust holds that "European girls born of British South African or Dutch South African parents who have been resident in Durban for a period of at least three years immediately preceding the grant", could benefit from the fund.

On Monday, the university, which manages the fund, submitted the phrase "born of British South African or Dutch South African parents" had ceased to have meaning in present-day South Africa. The words served to undermine the broader charitable purpose which Sir Charles sought to achieve, which was to help poor girls who would otherwise be unable to continue their studies.

"The purpose of the bequest was to oversee disadvantages confronting poor woman in obtaining tertiary education," according to court papers submitted by the university.

The university also submitted the words "European", "British" and "or Dutch South African" should be struck from the terms governing the fund as they constitute racial discrimination.

The University of KwaZulu-Natal submitted it was no longer practical to carry out Sir Charles' charitable purpose in the way he had stipulated.

The university's lawyer D. Stewart told a panel of five judges that Sir Charles could not have foreseen how South Africa would change.

"[The will] did not foresee that racial exclusion terms would be a problem. [An] embarrassment for the university."

The curators submitted to the SCA that the object of interpreting any bequest was to give effect to the testator's wishes.

"The selection of recipients is a matter of freedom of testation."

The two lawyers appointed as curators further submitted there were still enough applicants falling within the categories selected by Sir Charles for his objectives to be achieved.

If the university found it embarrassing to refuse to help non-white girls, it should ask the court to appoint other trustees.

The curators told the judges to keep in mind that if potential testators got the impression their intended benefits could be interfered with, they would shy away people from leaving money for the benefit of others.

"This would clearly be against the public interest."

It was further submitted that the measuring of freedom of testation against unfair discrimination in the Bill of Rights would have serious implications for this "charitable instrument".

USA: The document that should stop the Islamic “Victory Mosque”

So, building the Islamic center is a constitutional right - according to Barrack Obama and his loyal liberal media and friends. What many defenders of the center don't understand is that to build this center so near to Ground Zero is exactly what the fanatic Islamists need to continue their onslaught on the West. They will see it as a victory. Let's just hope that the resistance continues and that America unites against this travesty. In the meantime, here is an explanation of how the fanatical Muslim Brotherhood intends to destroy America and the West....

Racists, Xenophobes and bigots. Those are just a few terms used to describe the opponents of the Islamic center planned near Ground Zero. These characterizations could possibly be avoided, however, by more fact-based protest.

To date, defenders of the center seemed undeterred, despite all that is know about the project front man. Look just a bit deeper.

Among the golden nuggets of evidence produced during the trial of the United States vs. The Holy Land Foundation et al is a document that should end any ambiguity concerning the true intent of Feisal ABDUL-RAUF in his quest to construct an Islamic center at Park Place. In fact, it should be cause to reexamine all Islamic centers and mosques that fall within a certain criteria. Cataloged as “Exhibit 003-0085” by the U.S. federal government, a document translated from Arabic to English titled An Explanatory Memorandum, On the General Strategic Goal for the Group In North America details the objectives of the Muslim Brotherhood in America.

Feisal ABDUL RAUF is indeed an adherent and promoter of the Muslim Brotherhood’s goals and objectives. Any doubt to his Muslim Brotherhood connections can be quelled by the excellent and timely report by Alyssa A. Lappen, which is required reading for factual insight into ABDUL RAUF’s link to the Muslim brotherhood.

Clearly, according to this document, the objective of the Muslim Brotherhood is to convert the U.S. into an Islamic nation through sabotage and subterfuge. It is a handbook to achieve that end. The author painstakingly describes the process of “settlement,” among others, and further described its meaning and the methods to be employed:

The process of settlement is a “Civilization-Jihadist Process” with all the word means. The Ikhwan* must understand that their work in America is a kind of grand Jihad in eliminating and destroying the Western civilization from within and “sabotaging” its miserable house by their hands and the hands of the believers so that it is eliminated and God’s religion is made victorious over all other religions.
The succinct analysis by Ms. Lappen of point 17 of the document clearly illustrates that “[b]uilding Islamic centers equals building military “battalions,” points from which to later stage the planned destruction of the West.”

And what better place inside our front lines is there but within the perimeter of destruction at Ground Zero?

* Ikhwan (Arabic for brothers) was the Islamic religious militia which formed the main military force of the Arabian ruler Ibn Saud.

One-in-six Irish marriages 'is a migrant sham'

Another tale of the blatant immigration scams that are continuing to plaque the EU. It's quite amazing that the super strict EU hasn't cottoned onto the fact that there are numerous scam marriages happening to ensure that the new "grooms" get citizenship and access to the generous welfare benefits that the EU endorses as a right...Once again, what is the EU good for apart from destroying European nations??

MORE than one in six Irish marriages could be a "sham" in an attempt to gain residency in the EU, according to a senior registrar.

One of the country's main marriage registrars, Dennis Prior, said that he had witnessed couples who were unable to speak to each other and required two interpreters at their ceremony while others often had no friends present.

Officials are now mooting the introduction of an interview similar to that which green card holders undergo in the United States.

However, registrars have only limited powers to block marriages and gardai are investigating alleged bogus marriages which are often arranged by failed asylum seekers or former students who no longer have permission to remain in Ireland.

Mr Prior, superintendent registrar for the HSE eastern area, said that the increase in suspected sham marriages, which is now estimated at several hundred per year, was "disheartening and demoralising" for registrars.

Recent evidence from the Department of Justice outlined that the number of non-EU nationals applying for residency based on marriage to EU citizens had doubled since 2006.

It is understood that young women from poor eastern Europe states can be paid up to €5,000 to marry a non-EU national, in an attempt to exploit an EU directive giving family members of EU citizens freedom to live in the union.

Pakistanis have made 1,235 applications since 2002 -- 393 of which are based on marriage to Latvians while Nigerians and Indians make up a particularly large proportion of marriages to EU citizens, particularly from states such as Latvia, Lithuania and Poland.

Mr Prior receives on average one request each week for support from registrars who suspected the marriages they were solemnising were a sham, he said in an Irish Times interview.

The General Register Office and the Department of Social Protection are now drafting new guidelines for registrars to follow in identifying sham marriages and were considering changing the interview process for marriages.

In recent times, gardai have ramped up their investigation into bogus marriages.

Canada: Send Tamil migrants home: Poll

I published the original story here last week about 500 Tamils arriving by boat from "Sri Lanka". Seems like the Canadians are finally catching a wake-up and starting to see the light. As the article correctly states, the boat originated in Thailand where the passengers were safe from any possible persecution from the Sri Lankan government. Once they pass any safe harbour they change from being refugees/asylum seekers into illegal immigrants. This is exactly what Australia is experiencing under the Gillard government and one of the push factors why most people decided to vote against her in the election held Saturday. The usual cries of racism and xenophobia are thrown about, but these people are economic migrants and chose not to stay in Thailand but travel half-way around the world to land up in the first Western country with welfare benefits that they knew wouldn't toss them out. Clever....

OTTAWA - Send them home and use the Navy if necessary is the message coming from a new poll on the Tamil boat people issue.

By a margin of five to one, Canadians say the government should reject the almost 500 would-be refugees from Sri Lanka who arrived last week.

The Leger Marketing poll of 1,500 people, released exclusively to QMI Agency, was conducted from Aug. 2 to Aug. 4 as the ship travelled towards the British Columbia coast.

Asked which statement best described their own opinion on what should be done with the ship, which may include members of the banned Tamil Tiger terrorist group, 60% agreed with the statement: "They should be turned away - the boat should be escorted back to Sri Lanka by the Canadian Navy."

Just 17% agreed with the statement: "They should be accepted into Canada as political refugees."

A significant number, 20%, said they did not know which answer to choose and 4% did not answer.

Alberta ranked highest with 74% of respondents there saying send the boat back and just 11% saying let them stay, while Quebec was the second highest with 64% opting to send the boat back and 15% saying the passengers should stay.

“That’s a very high number,” said Leger pollster David Scholz.

Scholz said the number is likely high for a number of factors, including concerns about who arrived on the boat, such as possible terrorists, and whether other boats will follow.

“There is that worry that this is potentially people coming in, not just jumping the queue, but coming in and falsely representing where they are from,” said Scholz. “We don’t often hear about other refugee claims that are done on an individual or family basis, but when we see lots of them at the same time we tend to get a little nervous.”

Martin Collacott was Canada’s highest-ranking diplomat in Sri Lanka during the period when the civil war launched by the Tamil Tigers started in the early 1980s. Collacott says we can’t just turn the boat back.

“We need to follow the process that takes the ones that are legitimate refugees and return the others,” said Collacott.

How many are legitimate refugees is up for debate said Collacott, who noted that the ship, the MV Sun Sea, didn't come directly from Sri Lanka, but from Thailand where the passengers were safe from any possible persecution from the Sri Lankan government.

As for what he takes away from the fact that the majority of Canadians don’t want the government to let the would-be refugees stay, Collacott pins the blame on a battered immigration system.

“I think it shows Canadians feel they are being taken advantage of,” said Collacott.

The Canadian Tamil Congress believes the poll results are a reflection of feelings towards the immigration system, not Tamils themselves.

“I think there is a growing frustration,” said spokesperson Manjula Selvarajah.

Still Selvarajah puts some of the blame on government rhetoric that has warned about possible criminal or terrorist connections on the boat.

“People may be reacting to certain words such as queue jumpers and human smugglers,” said Selvarajah. “If people understood the immigration and refugee system and the process in place, they may have a bit more faith in the system.”

Pollster Scholz told QMI Agency the results cannot conclude whether race or ethnicity are factors in the reaction Canadians are having to the boat’s arrival.

The poll of 1,500 adult Canadians was taken online between Aug. 2 and Aug. 4. A probability sample of the same size would yield a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percentage points.

USA: South High in Denver embraces diversity

If Denver is an example of what is going on in the rest of America then "Houston, we have a problem" needs to be shouted from the rooftops! Kids from 40 different countries speaking more than 60 different languages make up the scholars in this one Denver school. Only 33% are English-language learners compared to 31% districtwide!!

If the world is fast becoming a global village, South High School is a microcosm of that cultural shift.

The first day of school for ninth-graders was like a visit to the United Nations, with kids from 40 different countries speaking more than 60 different languages in the hallways.

"A lot of people talk about diversity, but we really embrace it," said Stephen Wera, principal of the school, which sits at the south end of Washington Park in Denver. "We are the newcomer high school for the district. If you come here from Nepal or Sudan, and you live in the city or county of Denver, you come to South."

The main hallway is decorated with the flags of all the countries that the kids come from. An intersecting hallway boasts the flags of the colleges attended by last year's graduates, including Colorado School of Mines, the University of Northern Colorado and New York University.

Linda Nguyen, 16, an enthusiastic junior seated under the college flags, helped freshmen find their way through the labyrinthine halls Thursday.

She said she loves her school.

"If you have to do an essay on Ghana, you just have to go next door to get the answers," she said, pointing to the hallway filled with boisterous teens. "You don't even need computers or newspapers."

Last year, 33 percent of the students at South were English-language learners, compared with 31 percent districtwide. After English and Spanish, the languages most widely spoken at South are Arabic, Nepali, Karen, Somali, French, Russian and Burmese.

Some teens might never have been to school before setting foot on this campus.

"If you come from Nepal, or from one of the refugee camps in Africa, you might not have gone to a formal school," Wera said. "Then you come to Denver and go to South. It's a huge culture shock."

South graduated 252 students in 2009, or 67.4 percent, compared with 52.7 percent for the district. Its dropout rate that year was

5 percent, or about 120 pupils, compared with 7.4 percent for the district.

Credit, Wera said, is due to South's teachers and support staff, which includes people who speak such languages as Burmese, Arabic, Korean and Nepali.

On her first day, freshman Fatmazahra Abdel-Malik, 14, stood in a long line, waiting for her schedule.

The teen, who is from Libya, said she is having lots of fun. "I just say, 'Hi, what's your name?' I'm making a lot of friends."

One of the high points of their school year comes in April, when a week-long celebration culminates in International Day.

"There's a parade of nations, and everyone shows off their country, culture and background," said Wera. "Here, diversity is not lip service."

Mexicans, South Americans, Latin Americans, Turks and Cubans: All Coming to Europe via the EU

Seems like Spain is allowing Tom, Dick and Harry into their country and thereby allowing them to become EU citizens - anyone who has a tenuous relationship with the country is eligible. Not that these new "citizens" are planning on staying in that country. No, their number one prize is the UK - due to their generous benefits...Remind me what the EU is good for besides destroying Europe?

It is well known that America is currently being crushed by a tidal wave of Mexican “immigrants” but less well known is the fact that Mexicans, Cubans and Latin and South Americans are also pouring into Europe, courtesy of the European Union.

The absurd situation has come about because of a decision by the Spanish government to grant citizenship to any person who has a far-off distant relation who might have left that country up to 80 years ago at the time of the Spanish Civil War.

According to official figures released by the Spanish government, there have been 161,463 applications for Spanish citizenship under the new law since it came into force in January this year.

Some 95 percent of these applications are from Latin American countries. Another 82,000 Cubans have applied for Spanish passports and it is estimated that at least 150,000 Mexicans are eligible.

Of this number, more than 14,000 have already been given Spanish citizenship and reports claim that there are “huge queues” of passport-seekers forming every day outside the Spanish embassy in Mexico City.

These figures do not, of course, include spouses, children or parents, all of whom will qualify for residence as dependents of EU nationals.

It is well known that Britain is the number one target for immigrants entering the EU because of the lavish benefits on offer in this country and the insane straitjacket of political correctness which prevents scroungers from being deported.

It is not only Spain which has opened the door to even larger numbers of non-EU nationals to enter Europe.

The Bulgarian and Romanian governments have also enacted laws granting passports to people who are considered to have distant connections with those countries.

According to new laws in Bulgaria and Romania, people who have the most tenuous links to those nations and who now live in Moldova, Serbia, Macedonia, Turkey and the Ukraine also qualify for EU-valid passports.

Reports claimed that some 4.7 million people are estimated to be eligible for EU citizenship in this manner.

All of these people are completely unaffected by the nonsense Tory “immigration cap” which only applies to non-EU nationals.

Furthermore, it was the Tory government under John Major which signed Britain up to the “free movement of EU nationals” directive in the first place.

First Roma Expelled from France Reach Romania

France don't want the Roma people to be in their country and they have every right to try and get rid of them. Of course, the EU in Brussels and the usual Human Rights groups are jumping up and down about "discrimination", "racism", "human rights violations" etc.etc. - you know, the usual blah blah blah. Their native countries don't want them back either as the Roma tend to be unemployed and live off the state, so of course they also don't want France to send them back. Amazing what the Global Financial Crisis has managed to achieve...all of a sudden countries that were "compassionate" before can't afford to be and want to suddenly do the right thing by their citizens....

The first 93 ethnic Roma who agreed to the "voluntary return procedure" have left France and landed in Bucharest on Thursday afternoon, as part of a plan of French authorities to expell people living in illegal camps.

The 93 ethnic Roma who agreed to a "voluntary return procedure" landed in Bucharest on Thursday afternoon, as part of moves by Paris to expel foreign-born Roma living in France without a permit.

Romanian President Traian Basescu said: "Romania has no objection to France's plans to tackle illegal immigration, but it is also supporting the right of any Romanian citizen to travel freely around European Union.

'We need to co-operate better with France on this issue."

Kristalina Georgieva, the EU commissioner on International Co-operation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response, expressed concerns over France’s decision.

“France’s decision to deport Roma is worrisome for Brussels because it can lead to tension in Bulgaria,” she told local private television channel Nova TV.

“Roma should not be assimilated. They should be integrated to become part of society’s productive capacity,” she added.

The French government began the deportation of around 700 Roma people of Romanian and Bulgarian citizenship from illegal camps earlier on Thursday.

Those on the flight had agreed to the so-called "voluntary return procedure" under which each adult was granted €300 and each child €100.

Around 412 Roma people will be repatriated to Romania by the end of the month, Romanian state secretary Valentin Mocanu has said.

A total of 41 Roma are also being deported from France to Bulgaria, local broadcaster Darik Radio reported.

The first group of 13 will return on a flight from Paris to Varna, the country's biggest seaside city, on August 25th, while the remainder will arrive on two additional flights on September 10th and 17th, said Bulgaria Air officials quoted by Darik radio.

Deyan Petrov, chairman of Amalipe, a Roma rights organisation based in the Bulgarian town of Veliko Tarnovo, said France’s decision was discriminative.

He told Balkan Insight: “We should remember that during World War II Nazis in Germany killed many Roma, claiming that they were fighting crime.

"I understand that there are probably some alleged criminals in Roma camps in France, but you can’t dismantle the whole camp just because of that.”

“If there’s a mass return of [jobless] Roma to Bulgaria, this could turn into a social crisis.”

The office of the French president said in a statement the camps were "sources of illegal trafficking, of profoundly shocking living standards, of exploitation of children for begging, of prostitution and crime".

It added new legislation would be introduced soon to make the expulsion from France of illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe easier "for reasons of public order".

Rights groups across Europe have attacked France's decision, saying it violated human rights and the Roma were often treated like a sub-class of immigrants and targeted by police.

The Roma community in Romania numbers about 535,000 people according to the national census.

But non-governmental organisations, NGOs, say the figure is probably between 1.5 - 2 million as many do not declare themselves as Roma amid fears of being discriminated.

Roma in Bulgaria number about 370,000 people according to government statistics.

But NGOs say the actual number is nearer 700,000.

The minority is extremely marginalised, they say, as most live in poor conditions, suffer widespread discrimination and racism and have difficulties finding a job.

Why many Pakistani-Americans aren't sending flood donations home

Yes America, why aren't you giving more? You've only given $90 million so far! The message just doesn't seem to be getting through to you. Maybe if I type in capitals you'll donate MORE? THINK OF ALL THE CHILDREN AND MOTHERS...is it working? After all, you gave so much to Haiti so why can't you give more to Pakistan?

Many of the Pakistani-Americans who live in ethnically diverse Jackson Heights, Queens, are saddened by the flooding in their homeland and even have relatives among the displaced.

But, despite family ties, many aren't giving to the relief effort because they simply don't trust the Pakistani government.

“The money might reach a quarter of the people who really need it,” says Mussarat Khan as he leaves a doctor’s office. “The doctor and I were discussing the flood, there is just so much corruption.”

Whether the corruption allegations are true or not, perceptions that money would be wasted is one reason relief organizations say contributions for flood victims are way down.

“There has been a tepid response, it is down significantly from other disasters of recent times,” says Ken Berger, president of Charity Navigator, a Glen Rock, N.J., evaluator of charities. “There could be a host of different reasons – from donor fatigue to people not feeling comfortable because of their concerns about terrorism."

Mr. Berger says some of the problem could be related to the difficulty of media reaching the flooded areas. But, he says, giving could also be down because people are on summer vacation or simply because of the vast geographical distance between the US and Pakistan.

Although some people may not give because of their concerns about corruption, he says those same concerns existed for Haiti, where contributions after January's earthquake far outpaced the rate of giving in the aftermath of Pakistan’s flooding.

Whatever the reason, charities are feeling the affect.

At the Zakat Foundation of America in Chicago, Executive Director Halil Demir says giving has been “very slow,” with the charity not even raising 20 percent of what it raised to help Haitians. “This is very scary that the message is not getting through.”

It’s a similar situation at Concern Worldwide, a nonprofit that responds to such crisis, says Dominic MacSorley, the operations director.

“We are trying to reach 250,000 people and we have pledges of $8 million but our budget needs to double and double next week,” he says.

On Thursday, the slow giving is one reason why Hillary Clinton will visit the United Nations for a General Assembly plenary session on the humanitarian situation in Pakistan. Last week, the UN appealed for pledges of $460 million. The US responded with a pledge of $90 million but other nations have been slower, says Mr. MacSorley.

For example, MacSorely says 10 days after the earthquake hit Haiti, there were pledges equal to $495 for each person affected by the disaster. So far, he says there have been pledges of $3 for each person affected by the flooding.

The lack of response by international donors is perplexing, says Rabiah Ahmed, a spokeswoman for the Islamic Relief, the largest Muslim charity.

“In the past there was a lot more media coverage, more government officials and celebrities organizing benefits for those in need,” she says. “We don’t see that now.”

Islamic Relief has raised $2 million in cash and $22 million in donations of food, water, and clothing. But, the charity has now increased its appeal to raise $4 million.

Our supporters have to dig deep,” says Ms. Ahmed, who adds that this is now the religious period of Ramadan, a time of giving.

Some of that money will come through grass-roots efforts such as one in Plainfield, Ind., where a local mosque will ask its members to give money for flood relief during an Iftar dinner. Iftar is the meal after the day-long Ramadan fast.

Some organizations are hopeful that in the next few days the pace of giving will pick up. For example, the Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA), which sent six doctors to Pakistan Aug. 14, is sending its members e-mails and appealing on its Facebook page for contributions. By Friday it also plans an appeal on ARY, a Dubai-based digital television station watched by many Pakistanis.

“When people donate to us, all the money goes to medical relief,” says Abida Haque, IMANA president in Houston. “Our physicians all travel at their own expense.”

She says there is a desperate need to vaccinate children, to treat wounds, and provide potable drinking water.

Organizations such as IMAMA, however, will have to win over people like Syed Irshad Bukhari, a Pakistani-American news dealer in Manhattan and Rizwan Hamid, manager of a restaurant in Queens.

Mr. Bukhari recalls giving money for earthquake relief in Pakistan and finding out corrupt officials took a generous amount for themselves. Now, he says, “If you are going to give help, you give it directly to relatives.”

And Mr. Hamid says he would give to only Humanity First, a charity that he knows and trusts. But, so far, he says he hasn’t given. Instead, if he knows a family that needs help, he would prefer to give them money directly.

UK: Domino's Pizza scraps halal menu

So, Domino's Pizza in the UK decided to enforce Halal pizza on their patrons, and guess what? Sales dropped and they were forced to retract their new menu. I agree with the author of this article - that still would not make me go back and support them. They showed which side they're on. However, KFC and Subway are still only using Halal meat - I know what I would do were I living there...

Well if you must know, I think Domino's Pizza is a plate of hot vomit

The Domino's Pizza chain have been forced into an embarrassing U-turn and scrapped their plans to sell only Halal approved food in their fast food outlets.

Sales have been dropping after customers stopped using their outlets after being denied to right to order ham or pepperoni on their pizzas. Many of those boycotting Domino Pizza also did so because of the evil way in which Halal meat is produced. If you do not know just how, then shape up and go do some research.

In a letter to customers from its branch in Hall Green, which caters for surrounding Birmingham areas including Sparkhill, Moseley and Sparkbrook, Dominos explained: "I would like to draw your attention to the fact that the store is no longer serving a halal menu.
"Dominos Pizza Group decided to trial a halal menu in Hall Green and two other stores in 2009, but it hasn't had the impact expected and the company has reluctantly decided to return to a conventional Domino's menu in all three stores.
"This has not been an easy decision for us and we are sorry for an inconvenience."
No, not good enough for me to start using their outlets again. I am done with them.

There is no acknowledgement that stopping the sale of pork products was a racist act against those people who are not followers of the Cult of the Dead Paedophile.

- There is no contrition in the fact that they were prepared to use the meat of animals slaughtered in a cruel and inhumane manner.

- As they say themselves about their U-turn. "The decision has been a completely commercial one in line with the launch of our new lunch campaign."

Just as the rotating dictatorship of the government rides roughshod over the wishes of the true British People, Domono Pizza thought they could ride roughshod over their customers wishes for greedy financial reasons and finished up with red faces and a black eye. The government however must finish up in prison or on the scaffold.

People are reminded that KFC and Subway are still selling tortured animal meat and denying British People their right to eat a good British Bacon Sarnie. Boycott them.

Tensions Rise in Greece as Austerity Measures Backfire

Here's a reminder of a country who has, for years, lived beyond its means. Where the unions ran the country and most were on very generous social benefits. A country where the retirement age was 50, and even younger for some. Where daughters could earn their parents pension money when they died...Well, we all know how that turned out. The country is now reeling from very austere measures that the government has implemented. Of course, to raise taxes at this time does not make sense and so the country is suffering further hardship because of this shortsightedness...America's future?

The austerity measures that were supposed to fix Greece's problems are dragging down the country's economy. Stores are closing, tax revenues are falling and unemployment has hit an unbelievable 70 percent in some places. Frustrated workers are threatening to strike back.

The feast of the Assumption of Mary on Aug. 15 is the high point of summer in the Greek Orthodox world. Here in one of the country's many churches, believers pray to the Virgin for mercy, with many of them falling to their knees.

The newspaper Ta Nea has recommended that the Greek government adopt the very same approach -- the country's leaders have to hope that Mary comes up with a miracle to save Greece from a serious crisis, the paper writes. Without divine intervention, the newspaper suggested, it will be a difficult autumn for the Mediterranean state.

This dire prognosis comes even despite Athens' massive efforts to sort out the country's finances. The government's draconian austerity measures have managed to reduce the country's budget deficit by an almost unbelievable 39.7 percent, after previous governments had squandered tax money and falsified statistics for years. The measures have reduced government spending by a total of 10 percent, 4.5 percent more than the EU and International Monetary Fund (IMF) had required.

The problem is that the austerity measures have in the meantime affected every aspect of the country's economy. Purchasing power is dropping, consumption is taking a nosedive and the number of bankruptcies and unemployed are on the rise. The country's gross domestic product shrank by 1.5 percent in the second quarter of this year. Tax revenue, desperately needed in order to consolidate the national finances, has dropped off. A mixture of fear, hopelessness and anger is brewing in Greek society.

Unemployment Rates of up to 70 Percent
Nikos Meletis is neatly dressed, and his mid-range car is clean and tidy. Meletis used to earn a good living at a shipbuilding company in Perama, a port opposite the island of Salamis. "At the moment, I'm living off my savings," the 54-year-old welder says, standing in front of a silent harbor full of moored ships.

Meletis is a day laborer who used to work up to 300 days a year; this year he has only managed to scrape together 25 days' work so far. That gives him 25 health insurance stamps, when he needs 100 in order to insure himself and his family -- including his wife, who has cancer. "How am I supposed to pay for the hospital?" Meletis asks. Unemployment benefits of at most €460 ($590) per month are available for a maximum of one year -- and only if he can produce at least 150 stamps from the past 15 months.

There's hardly a worker in the shipbuilding district of Perama who could still manage that. Unemployment in the city hovers between 60 and 70 percent, according to a study conducted by the University of Piraeus. While 77 percent of Greek shipping companies indicate they are satisfied with the quality of work done in Perama, nearly 50 percent still send their ships to be repaired in Turkey, Korea or China. Costs are too high in Greece, they say. The country, they argue, has too much bureaucracy and too many strikes, with labor disputes often delaying delivery times.

Perama is certainly an unusually extreme case. But the shipyards' decline provides a telling example of the Greek economy's increasing inability to compete. Barely any of the country's industries can keep up with international competition in terms of productivity, and experts expect the country's gross domestic product to fall by 4 percent over the course of the entire year. Germany, by way of comparison, is hoping for growth of up to 3 percent.

Sales Figures Dropping Everywhere
Prime Minister George Papandreou's austerity package has seriously shaken the Greek economy. The package included reducing civil servants' salaries by up to 20 percent and slashing retirement benefits, while raising numerous taxes. The result is that Greeks have less and less money to spend and sales figures everywhere are dropping, spelling catastrophe for a country where 70 percent of economic output is based on private consumption.

A short jaunt through Athens' shopping streets reveals the scale of the decline. Fully a quarter of the store windows on Stadiou Street bear red signs reading "Enoikiazetai" -- for rent. The National Confederation of Hellenic Commerce (ESEE) calculates that 17 percent of all shops in Athens have had to file for bankruptcy.

Things aren't any better in the smaller towns. Chalkidona was, until just a few years ago, a hub for trucking traffic in the area around Thessaloniki. Two main streets, lined with fast food restaurants and stores catering to truckers, intersect in the small, dismal town. Maria Lialiambidou's house sits directly on the main trucking route. Rent from a pastry shop on the ground floor of the building used to provide her with €350 per month, an amount that helped considerably in supplementing her widow's pension of €320.

These days, though, Kostas, the man who ran the pastry shop, who people used to call a "penny-pincher," can no longer afford the rent. Here too, a huge "Enoikiazetai" banner stretches across the shopfront. No one wants to rent the store. Neither are there any takers for an empty butcher's shop a few meters further on.

A sign on the other side of the street advertises "Sakis' Restaurant." The owner, Sakis, is still hanging on, with customers filling one or two of the restaurant's tables now and then. "There's really no work for me here anymore," says one Albanian employee, who goes by the name Eleni in Greece. "Many others have already gone back to Albania, where it's not any worse than here. We'll see when I have to go too."

No Way Out
The entire country is in the grip of a depression. Everything seems to be going downhill. The spiral is continuing unabated, and there is no clear way out. The worse part, however, is the fact that hardly anyone still hopes that things will improve one day.

The country's unemployment rate makes this trend particularly clear. In 2009, it was 9.5 percent. This year it may rise to 12.1 percent and economists expect it to reach 14.3 percent in 2011. Those, though, are only the official numbers, which were provided by Angel Gurría, secretary general of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The Greek trade union association GSEE considers those numbers far too optimistic. It considers 20 percent to be a more likely figure for 2011. This would put the unemployment rate as high as it was in 1960, when hundreds of thousands of Greeks were forced to emigrate. Meanwhile, purchasing power has fallen to its 1984 level, according to the GSEE.

'Things Are Starting to Simmer'
Menelaos Givalos, a professor of political science at Athens University, has appeared on television, warning viewers that the worst times are still to come. He predicts a large wave of layoffs starting in September, with "extreme social consequences."

"Everything is getting more expensive, I'm hardly earning any money, and then I'm supposed to pay more taxes to help save the country? How is that supposed to work?" asks Nikos Meletis, the shipbuilder. His friends, gathered in a small cafeteria on the pier in Perama, are gradually growing more vocal. They are all unemployed, desperate and angry at the politicians who got them into this mess. There is no sympathy here for any of the political parties and no longer any for the unions either.

"They only organize strikes to serve their own interests!" shouts one man, whose name is Panayiotis Peretridis. "The only thing that interests me anymore is my daily wage. A loaf of bread is my political party. I want to help my country -- give me work and I'll pay taxes! But our honor as first-class skilled workers, as heads of families, as Greeks, is being dragged through the dirt!"

"If you take away my family's bread, I'll take you down -- the government needs to know that," Meletis says. "And don't call us anarchists if that happens! We're heads of our families and we're desperate."

He predicts the situation will only become more heated. "Things are starting to simmer here," he says. "And at some point they're going to explode."

Canada: End refugee free-for-all

I'm sure not many people have heard about the ship that arrived in Canada recently carrying 490 Tamil "refugees" from Sri Lanka. The ship was en route to Australia but turned for Canada when the opposition party in Australia said that they would turn boats around coming here from third world countries. Of course our esteemed government led by Red Julia Gillard won't do anything so harsh. Her government has become so soft on the boats that more boats have arrived during the past week than in the last 5 years of the previous Howard government. Anyway, the boat landed in Canada a few days ago bringing with it diseases like TB and most likely also terrorists posing as "refugees". This is becoming a joke. It costs around $71 000 (Canadian) to process ONE refugee, so you can imagine how happy the Canadian tax payer is at the moment....What no one is questioning is how much the traffickers have charged each of these "refugees" to board the ship. We know that the "refugees" coming by boat to Australia pay upwards of AU$15 000 each to book a place. Yeah, genuine refugees these posers....

The MV Sun Sea, crowded with hundreds of refugees from Sri Lanka, arrives at a naval base on Vancouver Island
Great news for health care!

The Victoria General Hospital is reopening a whole ward that had been shut down. They’re even contemplating dusting off an extra emergency department. No more waiting lists in that B.C. city!

Just joking.

The VGH is indeed doing all of that, but it’s not for mere Canadians.

It’s for a ship of 490 Tamils from Sri Lanka who decided they’d like to move to Canada, but don’t want to bother asking us first, or waiting in line like everyone else.

Reports from the ship say there was an outbreak of tuberculosis.

It’s a safe bet the B.C. department of health didn’t set aside millions of dollars in their budget for that Third World disease.

No problem — just take it away from MRIs or cataract surgeries. No one will notice, and if they do, let’s just call them racist.

Question: If a Canadian waiting for surgery were to get on that boat, could he jump to the front of the health-care line, too? Or is that privilege only for non-citizens, non-taxpayers?

The ship, the MV Sun Sea, was not originally destined for Canada. We’re an awfully long journey from Sri Lanka, an island country just off the tip of India.

No, they were en route to Australia, but changed course when their captain decided Australia’s navy would intercept the ship and turn it away. Canada, internationally known as a soft touch with generous welfare and free health care, was the obvious alternative.

Question: If Australia’s left-wing Labour government is willing to defend its shores, why is our right-wing Conservative government unwilling to do so?

Our navy didn’t stop the Tamils. We escorted them in, like ushers at the theatre.

Sri Lanka is not a nice place to live, in part because of the 30-year civil war waged against it by the Tamil Tigers, a terrorist organization.

More than 80,000 people have been killed in that war, but in May 2009 the Sri Lankan army finally crushed the Tamil stronghold on the island and killed its leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran.

Still, terrorists continue to organize and fundraise, especially in Toronto where 200,000 Tamils live.

But with the war over, life in Sri Lanka has improved — so much so that the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees says the security situation there is “greatly improved,” and countries of the world should no longer presume someone fleeing Sri Lanka is a genuine refugee.

Question: Why are we pretending these Tamils are refugees, when even the bleeding hearts at the UN don’t?

Let’s ask Gurbax Singh Malhi, a Liberal MP who spoke at a Tamil Tiger rally on Parliament Hill last March, surrounded by the terrorist group’s flags and portraits of Prabhakaran.

“You’re here today for a great cause,” he said. “I am helping you guys, I’m behind you because you’re fighting for the right cause.”

Question: What cause was Malhi referring to? The terrorist war in Sri Lanka? Or the cause of 200,000 Toronto Tamils voting for Malhi’s party?

Let’s do what Australia does. They have a small island 2,600 km off the coast of Perth. It’s actually closer to other countries, like Indonesia.

Australia built an 800-bed holding centre on the island. It’s not a prison, but it’s not a resort either.

When ships full of gatecrashers are caught, they’re steered to Christmas Island, which is not considered Australian soil from an immigration point of view.

They wait there until their refugee claims are processed — and are kicked out if they’re bogus. No living it up in the big city, no disappearing into a 200,000 person diaspora.

Let’s build a Christmas Island. We can do it on one of our remote islands off the West Coast, maybe in the Queen Charlottes.

Food and medicine, immigration officials and CSIS — and no legal rights to anything more, not even to vote for Mr. Malhi.
